What You'll Be Doing

MAIN FUNCTIONS: The Materials Manager  determines, procures, and maintains surgical inventory requirements, coordinates, and implements cost savings initiatives, and serves as a representative of the   Operating Room on various committees. Supports leadership with  budget and supply variances/   reconciliations under the direction of the Director. 

 

Supports departmental activities by ensuring that appropriate material resources including equipment, instrumentation, implants, and supplies are available as needed.  Maintains active communication among interdepartmental staff and surgical  services staff.  Initiates purchase orders and  maintain open communication and follow up to ensure quick processing of orders.  Supports Leadership and Make recommendations for capital purchases.

 

Performs department QI audits / tracers and identify solutions and performance improvement initiatives as delegated.  Also performs other duties as deemed necessary for overall workflow and safety of patient care in the OR.  Assists Leadership with tracking of outliers to discuss in  Perioperative meetings. Reviews surgical schedules on a daily  basis to ensure accuracy of proper instrumentation and Doctor special requests items.

 Always maintains a professional demeanor and acts as a role model for staff. Incorporates the team concept.  Always adheres to standards measured  as evidenced by peer and management evaluation and observation.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS: Exposure to communicable diseases, blood and blood products, illness, confused and/or combative patients, hazardous chemicals, stressful situations, X-rays and fluoroscopy, sharp instruments and needles, and electricity.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Includes standing, walking, lifting, pushing; occasionally must reach above head, carry medium to light equipment, and stoop.

 

REPORTS Director of Perioperative Services, OR Manager,  VP Patient Care Services, System VP of Perioperative Services.

 

CONTACTS:  Physicians, RN, OR techs, LPN, Physicians, Administration, Department Head, Hospital Staff, Patients, Families, Visitors and Vendors, OR specialty Coordinator and other hospital staff.

What We're Looking For

EDUCATION:  High School diploma

 

EXPERIENCE:  One-year medical materials experience preferred.  Previous computer experience (i.e., materials management inventory, order entry, word processing, spreadsheet applications.

 

LICENSURE/QUALIFICATIONS:  :  Associate’s  Degree
