The OB Surgical Tech assists surgical team during operative procedures. As a surgical team member under direct supervision of the circulating RN, provides pre-operative and intra-operative patient care. Demonstrates knowledge of use & care of all surgical instruments both intra-operatively & post-operatively. Demonstrates knowledge of all surgical electrical equipment as it pertains to optimum working order. Prepares for surgical procedures by turning over room and assessing
equipment/set-up needs for next scheduled case. Demonstrates proper
scrub technique, gowning & gloving of self and other surgical team
members. Demonstrates proper draping technique with appropriate back
table & mayo stand set up. Demonstrates proper counting of sponges,
instruments & sharps as well as demonstrates continuous awareness of
the location of sponges, instruments & sharps on the surgical field.
Demonstrates accurate care & handling of specimens. Demonstrates &
practices Universal Precautions at all times. Appropriately orders & stocks supplies for the L&D Operating Room & L&D unit. Prepares birthing rooms for anticipated vaginal deliveries.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education
Preferred: Associate's Degree
Specify Degree(s): Surgical Technology
Minimum Experience Required: Less than one year of previous job-related experience
Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
Licensure/Certifications Required: CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist
