THE ROLE

Oversees the day-to-day operations of an organics facility. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, AND ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Oversees the day-to-day operations of an organics facility. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Manages operations of site consistent with established operating plans. Makes certain employees’ assignments are allocated for efficient and effective operations. Monitors work to ensure safe, efficient, effective and compliant operations. Ensures all employees are properly trained and licensed (if applicable) to operate and/or maintain all equipment. Conducts safety meetings and ensures testing as applicable (e.g. hearing tests.) Collaborates with General Manager, Safety, Environmental Compliance, Human Resources and others to develop and maintain training programs. Ensures policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreement (as applicable) are followed Ensures compliance with regulatory rules and permits related to organics processing and their operation. Oversees work performed by environmental and/or engineering consultants to ensure quality control and conformance with budgets. Maintains and generates records of operations and submits reports as directed. Generates and analyzes operational reports and makes recommendations as appropriate. Investigates and resolves customer inquiries and complaints not resolved by subordinates or the organics sales team. Prepares or assists in preparing budgets and plans for equipment and staffing. May work directly with government/city staff on behalf of the company. May work directly with government/city staff and community and trade organizations on behalf of the company. Represents the company in community activities. Ensures compliance with environmental regulations, employee safety standards, other applicable regulations, and corporate policies. Negotiates agreements with customers, vendors, organics processing operators, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to qualify is:

Management experience in composting operations, collections or related industry. Principles of personnel training, supervision and evaluation. Supervisory techniques, resource allocation, planning and budgeting. Technical and professional principles, practices, laws, applications and programs in position related area. Current developments and trends in areas of expertise. Computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite of applications and using data to inform and set priorities and identify challenges/opportunities. Possession of a high school diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree preferred. Bilingual – Spanish preferred. Valid driver's license.
