Orientation and Mobility Teacher

The Teacher Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialistprovides students with appropriate learning experiences and activities designedto help them in social, intellectual, and emotional growth. The Teacher Orientation and Mobility enable studentsto develop competencies and skills to function in a successful and positivemanner and teach students with visual impairments to safely and independentlynavigate their environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Instructs students withvisual impairments to be mobile in a proficient and safe manner in allenvironments
+ Consults with teachers, parents, and school support staff toensure that home and classroom environments are properly modified and/oradapted for Amergisization of independence in mobility
+ Develops orientation and mobility plans to meet IEPgoals
+ Prepares lessons that accommodate learning styles
+ Assists in the selection of instructional materials andequipment
+ Evaluates student learning styles and use results to planeducational activities
+ Conducts assessments of student progress and achievementusing testing methodology
+ Compiles reports, records, and documents as required
+ Conducts conferences with parents, teachers, students, andother school district staff
+ Follows School and Amergis District policies and procedures
+ Trains support staff, parents and other personnel toincorporate orientation and mobility techniques into daily classroom routine
Minimum Requirements:
+ Valid state teaching certificate as required by stateregulations
+ Minimum of one year experience in learning environmentpreferred
+ Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
+ Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable
+ Current CPR if applicable
+ TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
+ Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
+ Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
+ Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
+ Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
+ Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
+ Computer proficiency required
+ Must be at least 18 years of age
