**Summary:**
40 hrs/wk (weekdays during clinic hours) - RDA & 2 yrs of orthodontic or dental experience required
Assists the Orthodontist in the treatment and care of orthodontic patients and assists in educating patients in oral hygiene care. Performs a variety of intermediate level patient care, laboratory duties, and works chairside as orthodontist examine and treat patients.

**Description**
1. Makes patients as comfortable as possible in the dental chair, prepares them for treatment, and obtains their dental records.
2. Assistants hands instruments and materials to orthodontists and keeps patients' mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices.
3. Ensures equipment utilized is in good working order.
4. Reviews and maintains dental records documenting assessments and care provided.
5. Reviews consent and medical history prior to treatment.
6. Prepares impression trays, orthodontic banding/bonding, arch wire ligation and removal, takes dental x-rays, removing sutures, placing matrices, placing and removing rubber bands, ligature ties and separators, removes excess cement from restorations and bands and takes clinical photographs.
7. Handles instrument cleaning, sterilization/disinfection and re-circulation. Performs dental room/chair disinfection.
8. Prepares casting models and dies, pours impressions to make stone and plaster models, and fabricates mouth guards, retainers and custom impression trays.
9. Assists in patient/family education through written and oral explanation.
10. Performs audits as assigned.
11. Cross trained to 2 other specialties within the department.
12. Knowledgeable of all policies.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
