Orthopedics Clinical Manager

Job Summary

Experienced leader responsible for the direct supervision of clinical operations and nursing services within orthopedic practices. (i.e. in-office procedures, nurse triage, and navigation) Responsible for ensuring safe, patient centric care is provided in alignment with organizational and regulatory standards. The nurse manager will manage, supervise, and coordinate the day-to-day clinic operations promoting effectiveness while ensuring quality metrics for care are met. Collaborates with key stakeholders to develop site specific and service line goals

Essential Functions

Takes responsibility for daily clinical operations and workflows to ensure quality and safety in patient care. Monitors clinical care and ensures compliance with policies, regulatory and accrediting requirements, professional practice standards, and delegated workflows. Understands clinical roles and related organizational scope of practice. Makes sure practice follows the Michigan Public Health Code. Builds interdisciplinary relationships to support improvements in care delivery, patient, staff, and provider satisfaction.

Collaborates with director, team members, providers, and other departments to plan, execute, and assess programs and services that enhance patient care delivery in assigned area. This involves efficient use of workforce, facilities, and equipment. Engages staff, supports participation, and incorporates advocacy in the creation and evaluation of policies, procedures, programs, and guidelines based on evidence-based practice, research findings, and Corewell Health quality outcomes. Informs senior leadership on the impact of policies, procedures, and programs being developed and suggests specific action.  Responsible for ensuring equipment, medications, and products used in the facilitation of patient care are taken care of per policies, procedure, and or in conjunction with governing bodies (TJC, RHC, etc.).

Partners with operational leaders to plan, execute, and monitor budgets, making sure that daily operations follow the guidelines established by the organization and clinical service line. This involves allocating resources to achieve productivity goals and patient care standards and helps in creating programs and cooperative strategies to increase growth and revenue for assigned area.

Works with service line leaders to create and sustain quality monitoring system that continuously assesses and improves the quality, safety, and results of clinical services for assigned area. Creates and applies quality indicators to measure clinic performance, staff performance, level of practice for specific patient populations and creates and applies improvement plans to address gaps. Joins in and/or leads interdisciplinary performance initiatives.

Fosters clinical research and evidence-based practice for assigned area. Ensures ongoing education and development for staff based on patient needs, professional practice, new technology and skills. Supports professional and organizational standards for clinical staff and provides a learning environment for training and education. Promotes growth and learning within role scope and uses site resources efficiently. Verifies education and competencies are done yearly.

Manages the activities of professional and support staff. Provides direction and support to subordinate staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with departmental policies, organization philosophy and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, and developing employees; planning and assigning work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; initiates personnel actions.

Promotes communication and respect for diversity in all interactions. Fosters a caring and collaborative culture among disciplines and departments. Works with director, providers, and team members to create and implement a vision for change that engages and unifies interprofessional and practice group teams. Creates, supports, and evaluates a professional practice environment that allows and motivates staff involvement by promoting shared decision-making, accountability, and autonomy in nursing practice. Acts as a role model, mentor, and expert to staff, colleagues, and students.

Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing3 or more years of related experience typically gained through skills, knowledge, and abilities in a related field1 year of relevant supervisory experienceExperience working in an organization of size and complexity comparable to Corewell HealthLIC - Registered Nurse (RN) from the State of Michigan
