OSP Engineer
Engineer and design Fiber to the Home (FTTH) routes using standards compliance for Dobson Fiber. The position will engineer and design the FTTH network within a pre-defined neighborhood area using Esri as initial design work and Dobson Fiber OSP GIS records software (Esri and Google Earth), develop a budget, and BOM to be approved by management. OSP Engineer will review as-builts, blueprints, drawings, change orders, and specifications to verify the completeness and accuracy of data. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Under the general supervision of the Director of OSP Engineering, the incumbent is responsible for designing FTTH based on the Fiber Indexing Terminal modeling. Input and track associate parts required for design and generate a BOM, including dollar amounts. Ensure proper processes are followed to ensure that designs/records are input and maintained accurately and consistently. Produce reports to reflect various OSP assets required, including home passing. Build records regarding a number of “passings” and other associated documentation for multiple departments. Ensure that FTTH plant designs are effectively protected. Filing and organizing office Assists team in troubleshooting and tracking issues and presents creative solutions. Correlates and obtains desired designs upon request. Monthly, validates and reports DLRs to the sales department or upon request. Update all drops and feeds in CrescentLink to match DLR table. Does related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE: Bachelor of Science degree preferred Minimum of three to five years outside plant database experience, which includes knowledge and experience in FTTH engineering and design. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of engineering office practice and FTTH designs Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions. Ability to work under pressure with good organizational skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Initiative in recognizing the need for improvement in, or adaptation of, existing systems and effecting changes in them. Strong database, software, and operating systems background Strong Analytical Skills Very Meticulous Good Problem-Solving Skills Good Communication Skills Must be able to prioritize projects and multi-task Understanding of construction units/ terminology/ processes ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS Some business travel required for this position Indoor office environment PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Usual office environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing. Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enables the use of office machinery. Texting while driving is prohibited by Dobson Fiber policy and State Law. Participate in safety committee meetings, training sessions, and surveys as requested and provide input into improving safety. Notify your supervisor or Human Resources immediately of any change in physical or mental condition or use of prescription drugs or illegal drugs that would affect the employee’s job performance or the safety of him/herself or others. Working under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited at any company facility, workplace, worksite, or when operating any company vehicle or equipment. Any employee, contractor, or subcontractor who works or reports to work under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs will be subject to disciplinary action, including possible termination of employment or loss of contract. Notify the Human Resources Director within five days of serious driving, drug/alcohol, or criminal convictions. Be a safe worker on and off the job. Help coworkers do their job safely.
