Department Summary:

The Applied Cybersecurity Department (P762) within the National Cybersecurity Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) (P700) seeking Operational Technology (OT) / Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Cybersecurity engineer to support Critical Infrastructure R&D programs. We will provide you with challenging opportunities to apply and expand your process improvement, innovation and transformation, and analytics skills. You will use your abilities to address complex issues of critical national and global significance.  We are looking for highly-motivated, adaptive, and self-directed professionals with a wide variety of interests and a foundation of skills in OT, ICS, cyber process implementation and knowledge of government cyber regulations for OT/ICS.

Job Description:

The successful candidate is expected to:

Provide technical support to drive research to enhance cyber resiliency of Operational Technology (OT), Critical Infrastructure, and Industrial Control Systems (ICS).Execute tasks per the guidance of the Project/Task Leader.Apply knowledge of cyber solutions and standards to promote the most impactful application of resources.Install and configure OT software and hardware, program OT, manage OT networks, design functional OT architectures, and discuss challenges and solutions impacting the cybersecurity of Critical Infrastructure.Work directly with government and critical infrastructure operators to develop standards and guidance for new cyber protection technologies, and perform applied research and development activities.Demonstrate OT and critical infrastructure knowledge through designing and building demonstrations, giving tours, and speaking at cybersecurity conferences.Translate MITRE’s mission and strategy into operations, by contributing to the Center for Securing the Homeland (CSH) sponsor’s goal of increasing research around infrastructure resiliency.

Basic Qualifications:

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Demonstrated background in engineering and cybersecurity to support OT/ICS.Knowledge and skills in OT architecture design, PLC/HMI/SCADA/IED programming, or OT networking tools.Willingness to be hands-on in a lab environment.This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site in Rockville, MD.Demonstrated ability to identify key technical challenges and opportunities.Strong interpersonal skills as well as effective verbal and written communication skillsThis position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with electric/gas utilities, manufacturing companies, or water utilities. Experience working with federal departments and agencies or their stakeholders (e.g., state/local/tribal/territorial governments) and critical infrastructure organizations.Working knowledge of cybersecurity policies and standards related to ICS/SCADA. Ability to apply knowledge of Cyber Physical /OT/ICS/SCADA security engineering to address new cyber defense/resiliency techniques. Track record of innovative thinking.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$118,000 - $147,500 - $177,000 Annual
