Job Description
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Lead ropes course and climbing activities at Alley Pond Park
+ Develop engaging activities for diverse audiences
+ Greet participants and host daily programs at Alley Pond Park
+ Inspect and maintain ropes course equipment both structural and worn by program attendees
+ Ensure a safe environment for climbing both emotional and physical
Qualifications
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
+ Experience using ropes, harnesses, belay systems and carabiners.
+ Comfortable working at heights.
+ Ability to lead curricular based programs.
+ Ability to work weekends.
+ Experience in youth recreation and education.
+ Associate degree or higher.
+ Valid New York State driver license.
Additional Information
Work Location: Alley Pond Park, Queens
Duration: April 2025 - mid December 2025
Salary: $23.61 per hour / 35 hours per week
Number of Positions: 8
Candidates hired for these positions are eligible for healthcare benefits.
In addition, staff earn vacation and sick leave every month and can receive free membership to our recreation centers.
Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required for all other candidates within 90 days of hire.
Fees: Hired candidates will be subject to a processing fee of $68.00. Hired candidates who are not currently employed by the City will be subject to a $101.25 background check fee.
