Position Summary
Assumes responsibility for providing patient care assisting with procedures such as skin biopsies, skin cancer excision surgeries, Mohs staged surgical procedures and simple to complex reconstructive closures. Maintain accurate records during each stage of the Mohs surgical process. Provides proper wound care and bandaging and is able to identify risks for each surgical patient. Provides pre-operative and post-operative instructions/care for surgical patients.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Monitors and assesses the physical status of the surgical patient. Assesses and responds to the individual, psychosocial and spiritual needs of the patient. Acts as patient advocate in coordination of patient care. Provides pre-op and post-op instructions/care for surgical patients.
2. Utilizes professional nursing judgment and takes action to implement positive outcome.
3. Knowledgeable regarding patient medications, medications utilized with in the facility, anesthesia medication and/or herbal therapies and associated risks.
4. Follows infection prevention standard practices to reduce healthcare acquired infections.
5. Appropriate medical record documentation. Reports and documents accurately and efficiently. Maintains confidentiality of patients and communications/documents.
6. Knowledgeable regarding all equipment uses/cleaning, familiarity with supplies, location, medication management system, and emergency procedures.
7. Appropriate wound care and bandaging post-surgery.
