Job Description
We are seeking experienced marine Pipefitters with over 5 years of experience to join our team. You will be responsible for the tear out and installation of new piping systems on a variety of Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Commercial vessels at our local yard and on barges.
ResponsibilitiesPerform layout, fabrication, installation, testing, and repair of pipe systems.Fit pipes and properly prepare joints for welding to meet specific system requirements.Work from blueprints and create fabrication sketches.Lay out and figure offset bends and rolling offset bends.Make up flanges with the correct sequence and materials.Read blueprints and job-related drawings.Set up and operate a burning torch.Fabricate and design pipe hangars.Test piping systems with air and water.Conduct actions and work behaviors according to safe shipyard practices.Tack weld, silver braze, soft solder, and burn.Install simple systems without blueprints.Work with all materials and sizes of pipe and tubing.Lay out all piping systems.Run pipe bending machines.Evaluate joint allowances and build piping systems within required tolerances.Construct dimensionally correct mock-ups for off-site prefabrication.Work with all types of pipe joints and materials such as copper, CuNi, NiCu, Cres, and steel.Properly use hand tools and power tools associated with the trade.Train subordinates and supervise crew as a senior mechanic.Adhere to industry codes, specifications, and regulations.Understand and act upon instructions.Wear personal protective equipment including a hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots/shoes, and respirator when necessary.Work independently to complete responsibilities.Maintain regular, reliable attendance.Essential SkillsHigh school diploma or equivalent.Minimum of 5 years of shipboard pipefitting experience.Knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the Pipefitting trade.Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.Effective teamwork skills.Ability to comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates.Ability to enter and move through manholes to work in confined spaces.Steady, reliable work ethic.Additional Skills & QualificationsTechnical training preferred.Must have assorted screwdrivers, tip cleaners, marker, tubing cutters, various pliers, channel locks, assorted combo wrenches, small pry bar, striker, center punch, 6” half round file, 14” and 18” aluminum pipe wrench, 6” diagonal cutters, ball peen hammer, mini and standard crescent wrenches, socket set to 1 ¼”, vise grips, ½” ratchet, and pipe scribe.Must have hard hat, steel toes, and safety glasses.Certifications: OSHA, VSRA Safety, Fire Watch, and 5 Panel Oraltox DT.Why Work Here?

Work Environment
Work in a shipyard and dry dock setting. Be prepared to work 8 or 10-hour shifts depending on job assignments. All safety requirements, including firewatch, must be adhered to.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of NORFOLK, Virginia.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.00
