Outside Referral Specialist 

 

Responsibilities Follows the order of screening, making the referral and tracking service of referral.Ensures patients have been cleared for specialty service office visits.Resolves pre-certification, registration and case-related concerns prior to a patient's appointment.Gathers pertinent information from insurance carriers, financial counselors, and other ancillary staff to make certain the patient is not financially obligated for services provided.Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.Process referrals in a timely fashion, including sorting and processing referrals by indicated urgency and date.Refer patients to specialists based on each insurance company’s available specialty network.Document and enter all referrals appropriately in patients’ medical records.Educate the patients on the referral process including their own responsibilities as well as their insurance company’s process and protocols in regards to a referral.Verify that providers have sufficiently documented the reason for the referral and have done the appropriate work ups prior to sending the patient to the specialist.Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related areaHigh School Diploma or EquivalentThe position is located in Montgomery, TXOrganizational skills a plusKnowledge of medical terminologyComputer experience requiredAbility to prioritize and multi-task to meet deadlinesExcellent customer service and telephone etiquetteStrong attention to detailAbility to perform assigned tasks independentlyGood verbal and written communication skills
