**Job Title: Material Handler** **Job Description** As a Material Handler, you will begin by training for a few weeks, shadowing your trainer and performing general clean-up tasks. You will learn the color codes for steel, placement in the warehouse, and crane operation based on your previous experience. You must be able to walk for 8-10 hour shifts, covering roughly 8 miles a day in an inside/outside role, and be comfortable with exposure to the elements. **Responsibilities** + Operate indoor and outdoor cranes. + Perform housekeeping duties associated with the role. + Pull beams and load flatbed trailers and railcars, including rigging and climbing onto flatbeds. + Receive inventory and move materials using overhead cranes. + Fill out shipping reports and bills of lading. + Document all outgoing loads. + Adhere to all safety rules, ensuring visibility to other associates. + Train to be a saw or brake operator, forklift operator, or steel bending machine operator. + Learn and retain information based on the color-coded inventory system. **Essential Skills** + Heavy industrial or construction experience. + Ability to read a tape measure, verified by test or reference. + Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. + Experience operating equipment effectively and safely. + Experience working around heavy equipment in construction or a similar field. + Ability to jump onto and off trailers safely. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Experience in manufacturing, construction, machine operation, forklift, bobcat, band saw, rigging, sheet metal, inventory, crane operation, distribution center, or heavy equipment. **Why Work Here?** We offer competitive starting wages with a structured incentive program. It can be very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. The facility is predominantly gravel flooring with some concrete areas. Employees must wear hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots. The environment is more akin to a construction site, requiring comfort with a hard hat, steel-toed boots, and safety vests. Training may take place on the day shift for a few days up to two weeks before moving to an off shift, and employees will only be moved once they are proficient and can operate independently. **Job Type & Location** This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Petersburg, Virginia. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
