Overhead Distribution B Lineperson A line worker installs and fixes overhead distribution and transmission systems, which includes poles, cables, and electrical systems. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: + Assists with installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical power lines and systems. Work is generally performed overhead. + Assists in the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of distribution utility power lines. + Assists with service calls concerning power outages and electrical problems. + Receives training both in book/classroom skills and on-the-job skills. Must continue to pass ongoing training to precede higher skill/job levels. + Operates motorized equipment, uses hand tools, and performs routine maintenance on electrical equipment, machinery, and tools. Performs janitorial duties on equipment and in shop areas. + Stocks and services vehicles to be equipped to respond to emergency situations. + Work nights, weekends, and holidays for extended periods; may be required to perform duties as part of the recovery force during emergencies and disasters. + Works at varying heights above ground, in manholes, and/or in confined spaces with proper Personal Protective Equipment. Minimum Qualifications: + Must be 18 years of age or older. + Ability to perform at varying heights above ground, in manholes, and/or in confined spaces with proper Personal Protective Equipment. + Able to: + work with hands above head for extended periods of time. + climb a power pole using climbing hooks and belts. + drive all vehicles assigned to the line crew, operate digger derrick to set poles and use a jackhammer, etc. + Available to work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc. Subject to call-out work. + Able to meet and maintain weight restrictions for bucket trucks as identified by the truck manufacturers. Education & Experience + Minimum 2 years experience in the electrical power line construction industry. + Ability to provide proof of work experience, schooling, and other certifications obtained during career. Pre-Screen + Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check. License & Certifications: + Driver License Required, willingness to obtain a valid CDL within 90 days of employment preferred. Travel Requirements: + Willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work. Safety Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.
