Owner's Advisor (Wastewater Treatment Facility Projects)
CDM Smith
We are seeking an experienced Owner’s Advisor to provide expert consultation and support to clients on complex wastewater treatment facility projects. In this role, you will serve as a trusted advisor, guiding clients through the technical, regulatory, and operational aspects of project planning, design, construction, and commissioning. You will collaborate closely with clients to ensure project goals are met, oversee project management functions, and advocate for client interests by aligning project deliverables with best practices and regulatory requirements. A Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is preferred, though not required; however, a deep understanding of wastewater treatment processes and construction management is essential.
This role demands a proactive communicator who can build strong relationships with various stakeholders, including design teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies. As an Owner’s Advisor, you will leverage your technical expertise to support informed decision-making, troubleshoot challenges, and maintain alignment between project objectives and environmental standards. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional with a passion for sustainability and a strong background in water infrastructure to make a meaningful impact on critical infrastructure projects.
This position may require an onsite presence at the client’s facility, or regular travel, to provide direct support and hands-on guidance throughout each phase of the project. Working onsite allows the Owner’s Advisor to collaborate closely with the client and other stakeholders, respond to project needs in real time, and ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Occasional travel to additional client sites or partner facilities may also be required.
Typical Duties:
• Serve as the primary point of contact and advocate for the client, ensuring project goals, budgets, and timelines are consistently met.
• Provide expert guidance on wastewater treatment processes, regulatory compliance, and environmental standards throughout project planning, design, and construction phases.
• Review and assess project designs, plans, and specifications to ensure they meet industry standards, best practices, and client objectives.
• Collaborate with design and construction teams to identify, mitigate, and resolve project risks and technical challenges.
• Monitor project progress, manage change orders, and maintain oversight of project budgets and schedules.
• Facilitate communication between clients, contractors, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery.
• Conduct site visits to evaluate construction quality, adherence to specifications, and regulatory compliance.
• Assist in the commissioning and startup phases, providing technical support to ensure facilities operate as intended.
• Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs). Reviews draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations and best practices.
• Meet with current and potential future clients to review their current and future organizational needs.
• Provide technical guidance and training to more junior staff.
• Mentor more junior staff and develop them for future growth within the discipline and firm.
• Participate in Communities of Practice (CoP) activities.
• Actively participate in professional association and societies, attend conferences, contribute to papers, etc.
• Performs other duties as required.
