Details:
Under the direction of the Chief of Thoracic Surgery, and within established departmental practice guidelines, the Advanced Practitioneris responsible for a variety of non-cardiac thoracic surgery duties at key practice sites, including: Winchester Hospital (Winchester, MA), Mount Auburn Hospital (Cambridge, MA) and Beverly Hospital (Beverly, MA).
Management of post-operative thoracic surgery patients in the Intensive Care Unit (in collaboration with the ICU team), Progressive Care Unit, and Telemetry Unit
Conduct history & physical examinations, progress notes and discharge summaries
Inpatient consultations
Emergency Room consultations and admissions
Performing thoracic surgical procedures (including, but not limited to, chest tube placement, thoracentesis, removal of tunneled pleural catheters, wound care, etc)
Familiarity with Robotic Surgery
Experience with post-operative management of Thoracic Surgery patients
Planning and coordinating postoperative care and post discharge follow-up
Outpatient Thoracic Surgery clinic coverage
Outpatient Thoracic Surgery patients phone calls
Includes in-house weekday coverage WITHOUT evening or weekend coverage responsibilities
Experience:
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a surgical PA (Thoracic Surgery experience is ideal)
Licensure in the state of Massachusetts
Current ACLS certification
Ability to work collaboratively in a high acuity environment
Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a surgical PA
Skilled in the care and management of pre and postoperative thoracic surgical patients.
Ability to interact positively with all members of a multidisciplinary care team, patients, and their families
Possess the emotional intelligence to work collaboratively in a fast paced, high-acuity environment where quality and caring come first.
