Packaging Associate – Level 1
SUMMARY OF ROLE:
12Hr Day & Night Shift Openings
The Packaging Associate tends to duties involving movement of product off of the machine to warehouse to prepare for shipment, works in coordination with ABM operators to keep machine stocked and running and other miscellaneous duties as required. Machine Operator II will serve as backup to this position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs all work safely in accordance with personal and product safety rules. Inspects product for visual defects and completes required paperwork. Adheres to packaging requirements for each product. Accurately positions Web in Box, Corrugated boxes and Mini Bins in place on pallet. Understands hand packing methods and can hand pack. Accurately reads a ruler to the nearest 1/16th. Removes product from machine. Discards defective products, including scrapping bags. Understands how and can properly separate and band cores. Understands how to clear scrap and recyclables from the production floor. Packs all good products in designated manner, including basic use of the pack assist and auto pack equipment. Closes boxes, bins, and mini bins and implements correct aseptic procedures. Reads the product specifications to correctly pack bags. Completes the hour-by-hour board and other Lean documentation. Ability to enter data info DAS. Basic use of other bag making auxiliary equipment, including (but not limited to) the Tap Inserter, Dip Strip Loader, Bag Separator ot other appropriate equipment as required. Reports reoccurring defects/deficiencies with the product and/or machine to appropriate personnel and/or the shift management immediately. Works in cooperation with ABM Operator to keep the machine stocked and running with fitments, and in ways that will help increase safety, quality and OEE. Assists the department in different capacities if the machine is down. Keep assigned area clean according to established 5S/Lean/Housekeeping expectations and Safe Quality Food (SQF) expectations. The concept of 5S is to maintain a clean working area, remove all unnecessary items, and keep all necessary items in their place to ensure a safe and organized work area. Inspects materials, products, and containers at each step of the packaging process. Trains employees at all Pay for Skills Level 1 tasks. Participate in setups and changeovers by removing and replacing materials from the line. Responsible for overseeing food safety. Actively participates in Safety, Continuous improvement, and Autonomous Maintenance (AM) initiatives based on plant goals and requirements.
YOU BRING THESE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or G.E.D required.SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: Ability to work all shifts and perform overtime. Ability to read ruler and interpret documents such as safety rules, policies and procedure manuals. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units or measures, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to move and/or lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Frequently standing, walking and sitting. Frequently required the use of hands to finger, feel, reach or handle machinery. Frequently bend, stoop and reach. Visual Acuity (VA).The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Moderate working conditions. Exposure to variable noise levels. Often exposed to moving mechanical parts.
