What You'll Work On

As the Packaging Automation Engineer, you have the opportunity to implement and maintain plant equipment, systems and other fixed assets to a high standard of safety, quality and productivity at the lowest possible cost while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.

This role provides automation engineering support to all aspects of the operation to a 24-hour production facility. 

Apply working knowledge of process control disciplinesIndependently conceive and develop approaches to problem solving that requires advanced technical knowledgeSolve problems that have a variety of complex features, such as, conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirementsPlan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scopeFacilitate the definition of a project scope with internal customersApply new technology and control updates where feasibleMentor technicians, operators, and others to ensure compliance and knowledge transferInterface with project team members, department managers, designers, R&D, Corporate and Division EngineeringPerform tasks such as writing Requests for Capital Expenditure, Change Requests, Scope Documents, etc.Provide technical support to the Tipp City plant, division engineering, and the Quality Assurance to support new product introductions, new process/equipment start-up, process optimizations, vendor qualifications, and process alternative evaluationsImplement new and/or current manufacturing methods into manufacturingMonitor production to determine areas of improvement and react to unforeseen production/manufacturing issuesProvide technical training to plant personnel including engineering, equipment operators, electricians, instrument technicians, and maintenanceCreate and execute validation activities according to plant/division policyPlan and conduct small to medium-sized projects.  Responsibilities include detailed project planning/monitoring, project reviews, implementation, validation, and release to productionCreate equipment/process specifications, drawings, and software as required and ensure that existing documentation is accurate and appropriateResearch, recommend, implement, and qualify replacement parts for discontinued/obsolete components, equipment, and softwareProvide excellent customer service to the production teams and meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

Relevant technical experience plus demonstrated competence5+ years’ experience in a flexible packaging automation engineering, new machine programming, and/or line integration executionDemonstrated project management skillsStrong communication skills, both written and verbalWorking technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures of flexible packaging systemsWorking knowledge of the following:Control system wiringControls devices and how to install and setup.Proper sanitary design and cleaning technologyOSI/PI or ZPI historianRockwell Studio 5000Rockwell FTView (SE/ME/Viewpoint)Rockwell Kinetix system troubleshootingIgnition software (support or development)IOLink, EtherNet, and other fieldbus technologiesCognex Vision SystemsVideojet print systemsMarkem-Imaje print systemsAutoCAD ElectricalFanuc RoboticsExercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actionStrong leadership skills - interacts well with diverse groups within the operation and maintains strong working relationships with internal in a collaborative, fast-paced, goal-driven environmentWork experience in the food /medical industry under FDA regulation
 

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Industrial Automation or Electrical

The base pay for this position is $57,300.00 – $114,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
