Packaging Engineer
**Position Purpose:** The Packaging Engineer position will support growth, quality, and productivity initatives to meet defined business needs. Responsibilities include initiating, planning, executing, and controlling packaging projects to deliver departmental strategic objectives. The Packaging Engineer will also participate in cross-functional teams to support new product introductions. Major tasks in this assignment include development of standard operating procedures, definition of packaging quality protocol, and conducting risk assessments to guide business decisions. As a subject matter expert in packaging, this position will also be required to support daily business transactions to resolve packaging deficiencies. The Packaging Engineer will report directly to the Manager of Packaging. **Key Responsibilities:** + Provide packaging support for merchant driven new product introductions. + Identify, plan, execute, and control packaging projects to deliver strategic business needs for growth, productivity, and quality. + Advise and consult on packaging best practices to enhance business performance. Direct corrective actions with service providers and vendors to resolve packaging issues. **Direct Manager/Direct Reports:** + Typically reports to Manager or Senior Manager, Packaging Engineer + No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the leadership of a work group: assign and review work, train and contribute to performance appraisal (but not hiring, firing or disciplinary action). **Travel Requirements:** + Typically requires overnight travel 20% to 50% of the time. **Physical Requirements:** + Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles. **Working Conditions:** + Typically in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes which cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness. **Minimum Qualifications:** + Must be eighteen years of age or older. + Must be legally permitted to work in the United States. **Preferred Qualifications:** + Bachelors degree in packaging engineering + Desire advanced certifications (Project Management Professional, 6 Sigma, or (Certified Packaging Professional) **Minimum Education:** + The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job. **Preferred Education:** + No additional education **Minimum Years of Work Experience:** + 1 **Preferred Years of Work Experience:** + No additional years of experience **Minimum Leadership Experience:** + None **Preferred Leadership Experience:** + None **Certifications:** + None **Competencies:** + Knowledge and experience with packaging physical property test and inspection. + Experience providing packaging support for consumer new product development + Excellent communication skills required.
