POSITION SUMMARY

The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable packaging solutions that ensure product integrity, optimize supply chain efficiency, and enhance the customer experience. This role requires a strong understanding of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will be a creative problem-solver with excellent communication and project management skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned, as necessary. 

Packaging Design and Development (30%)

Design and develop packaging solutions for new and existing products, considering factors such as product protection, cost, sustainability, and manufacturability.

Create and review packaging specifications, drawings, and prototypes.

Conduct packaging performance testing, including drop tests, vibration tests, and environmental testing.

Evaluate and select appropriate packaging materials and suppliers.

Work with the Product Management Team to develop packaging designs and innovations to best meet the needs of end users

Process Optimization (30%)

Optimize existing packaging processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and minimize costs.

Collaborate with manufacturing and operations teams to implement packaging solutions and troubleshoot issues.

Develop and maintain packaging documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.

Project Management: (10%)

Manage packaging projects from concept to implementation, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.

Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including product development, marketing, and supply chain.

Prepare and present project reports and updates to stakeholders.

Regulatory Compliance (10%)

Ensure packaging designs and materials comply with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., ASTM, ISTA).

Stay up to date on packaging technology advancements and regulatory changes.

Ensure proper labelling requirements are met.

Sustainability (10%)

Research and implement sustainable packaging solutions, including recyclable, compostable, and biodegradable materials.

Analyze packaging waste and develop strategies to reduce environmental impact.

Cost Analysis (10%)

Perform cost analysis of packaging materials and processes.

Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university

Specialized Skills and Experience:

Minimum of 6 - 8 years’ experience in packaging design, testing, and manufacturing processes.

Self-starter, able to work alone with limited supervision.

Strong knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and testing methods.

Good understanding of regulatory requirements for packaging.

Knowledge of sustainability principles and practices in packaging.

Handles up to intermediate/high complex issues and problems and refers only the most difficult and complex issues to higher-level staff.

Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.

Highly organized in scheduling, executing responsibilities, and prioritizing in a multitask environment.

Team player - maintain a positive, cooperative attitude with all employees of LATICRETE and all customers.

Computer skills: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook. Mini-Tab or other statistical software. CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD)

Travel Requirement: 

Up to 50% (domestic and international).

Must have or be able to obtain a passport.

Physical Requirements:

Lift: Must be able to lift and/or carry a minimum of 50 pounds.   

Push/Pull: Must be able to push/pull 25 pounds. 

Standing: Must be able to stand at least 50-75% of the day. 

Sitting:  Must be able to sit 25-50% of the day.

Twisting/Bending:  Must be able to Twist/bend 50-75% of the day.

Squatting, Climbing and/or Crawling:  Must be able to squat/climb
