Packaging Engineer (Hybrid: Onsite and Remote)

To support and drive Packaging Innovation and COG savings strategies aligned with assigned category goals to help the category achieve market growth and maximize financial performance. Participate as the subject matter expert in the product development process from ideation to product launch formula/spec development and commercialization

New Ways of Work: This position has been segmented as hybrid meaning the work is a combination of 3 days onsite In Rosemont, IL (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and 2 days remotely (Monday, and Friday) as defined by the role segmentation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Contribute to Exclusive Brands profitable growth and overall success, with focus on packaging for new offering innovation, and aligned with overall US Foods strategy.

Collaborate with Category, Marketing, FSQA and other functions to drive project potential and assure aligned direction on priorities

Align with key vendors and facilitate the on-boarding of new vendors. Build effective relationship with the vendor community

Develop best-in-class functional attributes and specifications that meet corporate, regulatory, and consumer/customer needs.  Ensure that brand integrity and brand strategies are maintained.

Ensure that specifications are accurate and complete.

Collaborate with the cross functional team to make sure that projects are delivered with the highest quality to the business on agreed timelines and within budget.

Participate on product innovation teams. Effectively communicate packaging specifications, develop risk assessments and implement corrective action plans.

Drive non-category specific packaging initiatives aligned with overall Packaging Science team strategy.

Drive Packaging focused COG savings strategies aligned with assigned category goals to help the category achieve market growth and maximize financial performance.

RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: Strong collaborative relationship with Category Teams, FSQA, Culinary and Creative Services.

External:  Professional and effective relationships within the EB vendor community and key packaging vendors. Possess a strong dynamic relationship with professional organizations and peer community.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training:

4 yrs College Degree or equivalent in Packaging Engineering required

Minimum 5 years’ related work experience in CPG, retail or foodservice required

Expertise in packaging engineering and innovation.

The candidate must have a strong foundation in the core fundamentals of packaging engineering, development and manufacturing processes.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Strong passion for food and food packaging and the drive to develop this passion throughout the organization

strong packaging evaluation and analysis skills

High collaboration and project management skills to work across a broad business base. Ability to influence and translate technical information in a non-technical way to all levels in an organization.  Strong judgement and decision making skills.

Highly organized with a strong focus on detail and accuracy. Ability to thrive in a complex, high demand, evolving environment, requiring quick responsiveness. They must be able to handle multiple priorities while maintaining focus on the bottom line. The candidate must demonstrate a high degree of written and verbal skills and have excellent organization and presentation skills. 

Work effectively as an individual with minimal supervision or as a team member as required

Must possess a workable knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Physical Requirements: Must possess a valid driver’s license, be able to sit and stand for long periods of time and be able and willing to travel.

Universal pay verbiage:

Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law.  The expected base rate for this role is between $75,000-$120,000

This role will also receive annual incentive plan bonus.​
