Packaging Engineering Intern

**Description**
Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Intern to join our Packaging department located at our St. Joseph, MO facility. As an Intern, you will learn the engineering that goes into running a large scale shipping operation within the biopharmaceutical field. **Duties & Responsibilities**
**Project Summary(s)**
1. The intern will review and evaluate the area to provide a solution to help improve equipment or process efficiencies with a budget of $100,000.
2. The intern will explore smart packaging options. Such as RFID tags, smart sensors or temperature indicators to track product.
3. Review materials received from our suppliers and evaluate the packouts for these items. Look into ways to update the packouts for optimal storage.
**Project Objectives**
1. The intern will provide the scope of work and project cost details.
2. The intern will research and propose ideas for smart packaging solutions to enhance consumer interaction or improve logistics.
3. The intern will collect data and provide a report.
**Student Learning Objectives/Goals**
1. Evaluating the packaging floor, the intern will learn how to start a project and put together a project plan.
2. Researching smart packaging ideas, the intern will gain knowledge of emerging packaging technologies.
3. The intern will learn to collect data and provide a report of their findings.
**Manager/Mentor Deliverables**
1. Review of project and presentation to leaders.
2. Communicate possible changes of “best practice” ideas.
**Requirements**
+ standing, walking
+ May need to lift up to 50 lbs.
+ Preferred experience using pallet jack
+ Major or minor in Engineering, Automation or similar field
+ Must be a current student in good standing with a minimal GP of 3.0
+ Summer internship begins in May and is expected to last approximately 90 days
