This position is a Full-time position Monday - Friday 3:30pm - 12:00am.
The Packaging Operator in Leavenworth sets up and operates automatic production machines that involve standard or high speeds to produce/package specialty or greeting card products. Operations may include such activities as winding or spooling, wrapping or banding, folding, packaging product, labeling, and other final production processes. Makes judgment calls in the make-ready and production and/or packaging stages in order to insure quality production. Monitors, troubleshoots and corrects machine malfunctions. Completes required paperwork and/or computer input on specific SAP screens to confirm production and spoilage/scrap. Adheres to quality standards and procedures and initiates adjustments as needed to correct product and/or packaging defects. Prepares and maintains necessary paperwork. May perform quality inspections on in-process and finished goods in accordance with the Quality Department procedures. Assesses cause of defects, charging responsible operations. Records and inputs pertinent data.
Maintains a neat and safe working environment. Actively engages and asks probing questions regarding press issues or performance. Performs required preventive maintenance. Positively participates in performance dialogues and other team problem-solving activities. Identifies potential problems and shows willingness to proactively work on problem resolution and alternative solutions to traditional methods of operation. Demonstrates leadership amongst the team. Flexibility is key as the incumbent will operate multiple machines and perform the quality inspector role, as needed. Incumbent possesses moderate mechanical abilities, but training is obtained on the job.
The Packaging Operator position may be in the Quality, Folding, Page Insert, Specialty and/or Counter Packaging departments, and incumbent will be expected to learn and perform multiple assignments within this job classification.
In this position you will:
Perform make-ready procedures and other press adjustments on a variety of equipment with similar skill set. Prepare the press to run and maintain or exceed the specified quality and production expectations. Troubleshoot from a variety of maintenance issues which may deal with robots, feeders, batches, bow machines, etc. Set up and operate a variety of automated production and/or packaging type machines, along with continually improving the specified production including throughput, OEE, etc. May work with the computer systems to track components, order materials, etc. Execute Quality System including preflight, sampling plan and the removal of salvage/spoilage. Develop an understanding of a wide range of quality systems and product specifications. Help prepare related paperwork/documentation for shipping accuracy, including completing production data and spoilage. Determine sample size and perform audit inspections on in-process and finished goods in accordance with the Quality Department standard operating procedures. Record all required production and defect information on inspection sheets and in SAP. Demonstrate the flexibility and teamwork to positively influence how goals are accomplished within the shorter periods of time. Participate in performance dialogues and team problem-solving activities. Identify potential problems and proactively work on problem resolution and alternative solutions to traditional methods of operation. Communicate with peers so everyone is current on the day to day process. Creatively think outside the scope to see how you can help others. Utilize good safety practices; understand and follow established safety procedures. Complete regular press maintenance and cleaning including TPM's/MIRC's (monthly inspection, repair & cleaning). Demonstrate mechanical ability by problem solving technical issues on the equipment.
