Job Title: Packaging Technician
Job Description

You will assist machine operators in the sanding department where large rolls of sandpaper are punched into smaller, round pieces for grinders and other sanding tools. You will move at a fast pace, assisting operators, packaging materials, labeling, palletizing, making boxes, and helping in other areas as needed. You may learn to run the machines in the absence of operators, lift 35 lbs, and work steadily to meet production goals. You will also pull orders, use inventory systems (scanners), put away and stage products. One candidate will need previous machine operating experience to run the die cutter. You will stay with your operator and machine for most of the shift, monitor machinery and product, calculate measurements such as weights, count all packed products, and document pallet contents. You will shrink wrap the final product and prepare it for shipping. Computer use, repetitive lifting, and attention to detail are required.

The plant has a very tenured staff, including a production manager who has been with the company for 26 years. The work environment is relaxed with reasonable production goals, very little turnover, and a great benefits package. Each role is crucial as the plant has around 50 employees, and each plays an important role. Candidates with impeccable attendance and performance have been offered long-term employment.

Work Environment

The plant is not climate controlled, but has big fans to keep the environment comfortable in the summer and is cooler in the winter with the dock door open for truck loading. The typical shift is 6am-3pm, Monday through Friday, but flexibility is required as you may need to start as early as 5am for overtime.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of PETERSBURG, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
