Packing and Shipping Clerk
Position: Packing and Shipping Clerk Department: Material Handling Reports to: Logistics Team Lead Location: 4433 South Drive, Houston, TX 77053 (Onsite) JOB SUMMARY Verify and maintain records on outgoing shipments. Prepare and pack items for shipment. Duties include packing, addressing, stamping verifying records, shipping merchandise, and arranging transportation of products. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS + Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes. + Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials. + Confer or correspond with supervisor to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications. + Pack, seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using hand tools, power tools, or postage meter. + Contact carrier representatives to make arrangements or to issue instructions for shipping of materials. + Compute amounts, such as space available, shipping, storage, or demurrage charges, using computer or price list. + Compare identifying information and counts; weigh or measure items of outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. + Pull part from the internal and external warehouse based on job picking tickets. + Determine method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates. + Affix shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons using stenciling equipment. + Assemble wooden or cardboard containers or select preassembled containers. + Insert items into containers using spacers, fillers, and protective padding. + Ensure nails are covered on wooden crates and bins containers with metal tape, using a strapping machine. + Stamp, stencil, or glue identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers. + Post weights & shipping charges and affix postage. + Examine outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications. + Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies. + May operate a forklift or use a hand truck to move products, pallets, and/or equipment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE + High School Diploma, GED or Technical School Degree + Basic math skills required + 2 years of experience in a warehouse packing/shipping role, preferred. + Forklift certification required. + Valid US Driver’s license with clean driving record, required + Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) required + Proficiency in ERP Systems (SAGE, SITELINE) preferred PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the warehouse and on the loading dock. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Office and travel have moderate noise levels. Machine/Product demonstrations and customer visits can have loud noise levels. To meet customer requirements, the employee may be asked to travel in an airplane and/or vehicle to get to customer work sites. At times, this position walks on or through high elevations, underground and/or confined spaces, around high voltage and in heavy industrial and/or construction work environments such as bridges, dams, mines, power plants, shipyards, etc. The employee must be able to work in hazardous working environments with possible extreme working conditions to complete customer training and/or applications support. Noise levels may be extreme and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided. Usage may be driven by customer requirements. Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, steel toe boots, hardhat and safety glasses, hearing protection. Customer site working environments can be extreme in regard to height, confined spaces, ambient temperature, physical requirements and hazards.
