Overview

St. Lukes Health–Sugar Land Hospital offers the latest technology and treatments for residents of Fort Bend County and Southwest Houston. Since 2008 our experienced doctors nurses and support staff have provided expert care to support our community.


Responsibilities

The RN in PACU utilizes the nursing process to identify patient needs and priorities of care through assessment, planning, and delegation of care based on patient needs post-anesthesia and evaluation of the patient’s response.  Is held accountable for policies and procedures of the department and organization.  This position supports the mission, vision, and philosophy of CommonSpirit Health.

Maintain a knowledge base regarding sedation/analgesic and anesthetic agents and techniques, physiologic and physiological response to the recovering patient.Assess, plan, intervention for and evaluate the physical and physiological response to analgesia; able to plan for the risks and the interventions for those risks associated with the administration of sedation, analgesia, and anesthetic agents.Assesses patient's health and continuously monitors; detect changes in symptoms, health or pain, and take action as necessary; and quickly and accurately assess patient care needs.Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.Collaborates with other care staff to assure smooth transition for patient throughout the facility using proper hand off techniques.Administers medications, IV therapy, and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures.Provides patient and family education.Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.Orient and achieve competency from all areas of the Perioperative department.Maintains order, stock, and cleanliness of all areas of the department.Practices safe work habits, compliance with safety rules and regulations, and adheres to safety policies.Utilizes resources appropriately and follows facility guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
Associates Degree Nursing requiredAt least one (1) year of recent acute care experience requiredRegistered Nurse the state of Texas (RN:TX)BLS requiredACLS (within 6 months)Experience working in PACU preferred
