Paper Machine Asst Supt
Paper Machine Assistant Superintendent Solvay Mill, Syracuse, NY The Opportunity: The Paper Machine Assistant Superintendent for providing technical expertise to the Business Unit. The position will command both the theoretical and practical aspects of paper making to include Stock Preparation, Paper Machine, Winding and Finishing. Will assume a leadership role in the absence of the Business Unit Leader. How you will impact Smurfit WestRock: * Provides safety leadership * Achieves operating plan metrics by eliminating losses daily and providing leadership in execution of shift plans * Provides technical expertise to the line team in troubleshooting with a sense of urgency and alignment of resources * Ensures the outage planning and execution process drives achieving budget goals and OME * Coordinates and executes business unit trials with vertical teams and mill support * Assists with the Operations Pay for Skills in each HSG * Provides analysis of operating data and statistical trends for establishing continuous improvement plans * Leads line teams in process of optimization * Responsible for tracking and managing variable costs * Prepares periodic summaries for the business unit along established metrics * Utilizes quality management system to ensure conformance * Assists with customer satisfaction and problem resolution * Provides operational leadership * Plays active role in HSG leadership activities * Responsible for business unit common system elements * Coordinates with BUL various phases of operations training * Responsible for taking calls as requested * Responsible for weekend coverage * Perform all other duties as assigned What you need to succeed: BS degree in related field such as Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or Pulp and Paper science; minimum five years' experience in pulp and paper industry or HS diploma with minimum of 15 years of multiple paper mill experience. Demonstrated computer competency specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and OSI PI Systems. Demonstrated safe work practices and behavior. Operational experience desirable. Excellent interpersonal skills in verbal and written communications. Ability to respond in urgent situations. Ability to multi-task several priorities and projects simultaneously. Ability to plan long and short-term solutions to safety, quality, cost, and productivity concerns. Possess advanced theoretical and practical papermaking skills. Strong orientation for process optimization. Open-minded, good listener. Enthusiastic, motivated, high initiative. Trouble Shooter, creative thinker, problem solving with a responsibility for business unit results. Desire to drive to resolution. Presents a professional image. ISO Experience or similar quality management system experience. Salary range: $82,125- $136,875 The above range represents the expected base salary for this position. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to relevant skills and experience, credentials for the position, time in an applicable role, and geographic location.
