Paper Machine Superintendent

JOB SUMMARY


The Paper Machine Superintendent directs and leads the production operations of one or more paper machine(s) in the assigned facility including the stock preparation (prep) operations.  This position is responsible for creating a safe work environment, executing and continuously improving the quality, productivity, efficiency and cost of the operation.  The Paper Machine Superintendent reports to the Operations Manager.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS


•    Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline or commensurate experience.

•    Minimum of ten (8) years of paper machine experience to include seven (6) years of operations and/or engineering experience and five (4) years of supervisory experience.

•    High School Diploma or Equivalent required

•    Capability to coordinate with site procurement in administration or third party contracted services and various subcontracts.

•    Purchasing and Asset Management 

o    Precision Maintenance

o    Maintenance Planning and Scheduling

o    Reliability Systems

•    Thorough knowledge of budgeting and operations planning. Working knowledge of planning and scheduling processes, computerized maintenance management systems and related maintenance recordkeeping.

o    Product Cost Accounting

o    CapEx Procedures & Guidelines

o    Working Knowledge of Financial Indicators

o    Budgeting and Forecasting Processes

•    Safety, Health and Environmental

o    OSHA, State, and local laws/regulations

o    Safety Programs and Training

•    Process Improvement and Management Tools

o    Lean, 6 Sigma, Statistics, Kepner-Tregoe, etc.

o    Shift Supervisor or Operations Maintenance Coordinator in a Paper Mill

o    Maintenance/planning experience and/or exposure

o    Experience leading resolution of a difficult situation or crisis

o    Involvement in budget or operating plan development for department

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


To successfully perform the essential functions of this role it requires the ability to: stand occasionally, walk frequently, frequent use of hands (reach with hands and arms), view computer monitor, use telephone, speak and listen frequently.
