Patent Paralegal role within Corning’s Law Department contributing to the operational excellence of the Intellectual Property (IP) Department. Provides legal assistance and performs a variety of legal-related tasks including document preparation, review, docket management, research, and coordination.
 

Roles & Responsibilities Supports patent attorneys for the intake of intellectual property matters and correspondence, managing IP-related data and documents. Communicates with external law firms and internal business and technical contacts and prepares and submits patent applications and other patent filings to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and other patent offices world-wide. Drafts assignments, declarations, and completes templates and other documents for attorney review, as well as filing of such documents.  Ensures that the patent filings are complete and submitted in a format acceptable to the USPTO or other patent office and in compliance with Department guidelines.  Prepares and assists with managing attorney dockets and running other reports needed for the patent attorneys to effectively manage patent and technology portfolios.

 

Experiences/Education - Required Associate’s degree/equivalent education, or equivalent work experience. 3+ years paralegal, administrative, legal, or related background Ability to read detailed, complex documents for content and flag relevant issues.  Ability to conduct, summarize, and analyze basic research.  Strong attention to detail with ability to understand and follow established protocols/requirements, both internal and at the USPTO or other patent offices Ability to work both independently and closely with team members to ensure high quality, error-free patent submissions under strict deadlines. Knowledge of word processing, data management, and document manipulation software including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat, etc. Ability to leverage computer-based systems and adopt new tools to manage workload and increase efficiency. Ability to identify opportunities for improvements in IP Department processes. Ability to handle highly confidential and proprietary documents in a secure manner. Ability to interact with others, including colleagues within the Department, in a professional manner. Consistent and dependable work habits and solid work ethic. Experiences/Education - Desired Bachelor’s degree/equivalent education, or work experience preferred. Paralegal certification

The range for this position is  $51,494.00   -  $70,805.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
