Primary Function/General Purpose of Position Ground Paramedic provides direct patient care and transportation when responding to both emergent and non-emergent calls for service. Ground Paramedic operates within all federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures and guidelines of the organization and applicable Emergency Medical Services (EMS) protocols.

Essential Job Functions

​Responds to calls, performs ALS patient assessment and triage

Performs indicated Advanced Life Support procedures as per the appropriate EMS Protocols under the direction of the Medical Control Physician, through standing orders or radio/phone communications.

Ensures that vehicles and equipment are ready for use at the beginning and end of shift.

Operates all vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.

Provides high level of customer service to all patients, patient’s families, community providers, visitors, and employees.

Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation as applicable to patient care.

Demonstrates the ability to work independently, problem solve, and be able to resolve conflict while working under considerable stress.

Accommodates and trains new staff and/or students for orientation and/or educational purposes. Completes all documentation on behalf of students/orientees.

Maintains knowledge of policies, procedures, and EMS Protocols.

Licensing/Certification

Current paramedic-level certification (required)

Valid State Driver’s License (Required)

BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (Required)

ACLS – AHA (Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association) (Required)

PALS – AHA (Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association) (Preferred upon hire, Required within 6 months of hire)

NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) or Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) (Preferred upon hire, Required within 6 months of hire)

Education

High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Successful completion of a Paramedic program at the certificate or associates degree level (Required)

Work Experience

1 Year of Paramedic Experience (Preferred)

Training

Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) – (Preferred upon hire, Required within 1 year of hire)

ICS 100 & ICS 700 (Preferred)

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.​
