PRN Paramedic – Pediatric Emergency Department

Paramedics provide emergency treatment, including advanced life support, to patients in emergencies. The Paramedic's role is to assess the urgent medical needs of patients and stabilize their conditions. Paramedics are the most highly trained emergency medical responders.
A caregiver in this PRN position works days/evenings/nights/weekends from 11:00AM – 11:30PM. You must be able to commit to working 48 hours every 6 weeks to qualify.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide duties that assist in providing patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Obtain and record vital signs,
Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy and oral, nasal and ET suctioning.
Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy and saline locks.
Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes.
Apply orthopaedic appliances and simple splints.
Size crutches and teach crutch walking.
Assist with equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, etc.
Assist with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices.
Transport patients and specimens.
Assist with sterile procedures and cleaning and maintaining supplies and equipment.
Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy.
Perform fluid/drug administration.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic training program.
Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic training program.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
International Trauma Life Support (ITLS).
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or within one year of start date in the Emergency Department.
One year of experience as an EMT-P.
