Position Summary:
Provides assistance and support to Teacher in the planning and implementation of classroom instruction to specifically meet the educational needs of the assigned student.  Provides encouragement and support to the student to contribute to the best possible educational experience.

Responsibilities

 

Provides assistance to Teacher in planning classroom curriculum and implements plans to meet the physical, emotional, and educational needs of the assigned student;
Provides assistance to Teacher for the assessment of an assigned student’s abilities and capabilities;aids in the development and implementation of lesson plans and activities that are individual-specific, meet the learning needs of each student, encourage increased skills, and address specific IEP goals;Assists Teacher in establishing and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to maximum academic
and social learning by maintaining order and guiding each student to socially appropriate behavior;Assists Teacher in the proper utilization of classroom equipment and materials. Makes
recommendations to Teacher regarding the purchase and usage of new supplies and curriculum
materials;Under direction of Teacher, observes and tracks student behavior, gathers behavioral data, performs
calculations, and creates graphic illustrations for review by Teachers, clinical-specific staff, etc, to identify and monitor student proficiency and performance levels, to support modifications to current educational program;Instructs, prompts, and/or assists each person in the achievement of educational goals while actively encouraging the independence of each person within his/her ability limit while following the IEP and individual behavior planAccompanies assigned student(s), provides guidance, and participates in school-related activities; e.g., class trips, extracurricular activities, meals, etc. Provides assistance to Teacher in the planning and oversight of recreational activities and educational trips for students;

 

Qualifications

Education;Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of direct experience working in an educational environment, or, 30 college credits with six months of related work experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree in a related field are required. Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.


Special Skills: Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form required. Familiarity with teaching methods and educational programs designed for students with learning, physical, and behavioral disabilities. Effective teaching and facilitation skills required. Basic math skills required. Effective interpersonal skills, a strong desire to work with developmentally-disabled individuals required, and the ability to implement crisis intervention techniques required. Operative knowledge of MS Office Word and Excel spreadsheets preferred. Attainment of Pool Safety Training, First Aid, CPR and Safe and Positive Approaches within the first 90 days of employment required. Valid driver’s license required in incumbent’s legal name and current address with no provisional restrictions. As well as one year minimum of driving experience with the required license. Minimum 18 years of age required.
