Function of Position:
Reporting to the Director of Learning Support Systems, Paraprofessional Tutors are staff who work with students to help them to develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners. These tutors help students with discipline-specific content.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary Functions:
+ Foster the development of independent, intentional learners
+ Help students understand and use effective learning strategies
+ Provide tutor assistance in subject areas in one-on-one and group settings
+ Psychology
+ Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty
+ Attend training activities to comply with certification requirements before and/or during semesters
+ Collaborate with faculty on providing workshops and in setting tutoring expectations
+ Adhere to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor Handbook
+ Promote critical thinking and problem solving
+ Help to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific content
+ Promote student understanding of Psychology as a science
Secondary Functions:
+ Visit classrooms, as needed, to introduce students to tutoring
+ Assisting with other learning assistance projects as assigned
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
+ Associates or working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology
+ Experience working with diverse college populations
+ Technology savvy
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Psychology
+ Two years of tutoring experience
Additional Information:
Pay Rate: Associates Degree - $15.00/hr
Job Type: Part Time
Hours: 10-20 Hours per week
