Parenting Educator - Watertown, NY
This position will serve as the Parenting Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County. This position will implement programming from a menu of existing parenting education curricula. This position will be responsible for the delivery of established parenting programming and activities, both on-site and off-site in accordance with the Parenting Program Area’s Plan of Work to include, but not limited to: one-on-one teaching, home visitation, demonstrations, newsletters, and group workshops. Research-based, evidence-based and best practices curricula will be utilized to deliver programming.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a part-time non-exempt position, 15 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $22.50.

POSITION INFORMATION:

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education (Associate’s Degree and 2 years transferrable program/functional experience).Home visiting experience.Background in parenting education, trauma-informed practices, and familiarity with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES).Experience relevant to the role of the position.Valid NYS driver’s license and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of subject matter appropriate to area of programming.Demonstrated ability to plan, teach and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.Demonstrated ability to function as a team member working with volunteers and staff.Demonstrated ability to organize reference materials for programming purposes.Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse audiences.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes.Demonstrated ability in using research-based, evidence-based and/or best practices.

Program Responsibilities:

Program Delivery, Evaluation and Applied Research - 80%

Leverage approved program resources and materials to support program activities effectively.Deliver parenting programs such as Magic Years, Middle Years, Tween and Teen Years, Parenting After Separation and Divorce, Discipline is Not a Dirty Word, Life Skills, and Financial Literacy. Delivery method: one-on-one home visit.Implement educational programs and activities to align with and support broader programming objectives within the established plan of work.Promote program acceptance by addressing community and individual needs while considering diverse audiences and adhering to organizational methods and policies.Provide subject matter knowledge in discipline-related topics and offer consistent, evidence-based responses.Collaborate with the 4-H/Parenting Program Manager to develop lesson plans based on established subject matter knowledge. Deliver programs through methods such as one-on-one sessions, home visits, health fairs, newsletters, and group workshops.Work collaboratively with the Association and Parenting Program staff to achieve shared program delivery goals.Occasionally apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans to delivery educational programs.Implement program evaluation as designed.Interact with program participants to obtain evaluation data, to include: evaluating effectiveness of all programs.Assist 4-H/Parenting Program Manager in the process of analyzing program data, and based on that analysis, assist in making recommendations for improvements in program offerings.Communicate evaluation findings to constituents as appropriate.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Coordination/Operation - 15%

Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.Provide input to 4-H/Parenting Program Manager for program budget preparation and submit program expense reports. Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.Organize and coordinate activities related to parenting programming.Collaborate with Jefferson County Department of Social Services on deliverables and outcomes needed to meet contract needs.Effectively maintain professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.This position may require the transport of program participants and/or program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

In cooperation with Supervisor, Deputy Executive Director and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
