This law enforcement position is responsible for ensuring the safety of visitors and protecting the resources of the park by obtaining voluntary compliance with laws and park regulations. Job duties include, overseeing search operations, administering basic first aid and executing rescues, patrolling for possible thefts, illegal hunting, cutting of trees, vandalism, or other violations, and preparing the necessary accident/incident reports as required. This position will have to travel to other areas to perform patrols and training at the request of the Company Sergeant. This position will serve as the primary safety officer for the park and will help in the overall health and safety plan of the department. This position is subject to 24-hour call and must be able to traverse rough terrain and work in inclement weather. A criminal background check and driving record check are required.

Applicants must meet or exceed the following qualifications: The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in park management, outdoor recreation, criminal justice, or related filed, plus completion of A.L.E.T.A. (Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy); plus one year of experience in a natural resources field or law enforcement, OR two years of college and 300 hours of specialized training in law enforcement; plus two years of of experience in a natural resources fired, and the completion of A.L.E.T.A. (Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy). Must possess valid driver's license and have completed the Arkansas law enforcement certification training in accordance with ACA 12-9-106. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.

Summary
The Park Ranger is responsible for assisting supervisors in the administration, law enforcement, visitor services, development, and maintenance of a state park. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions
Patrols park by foot, bicycle, or automobile, monitoring activities, investigating accidents and incidents, issuing citations or making arrests, controlling crowds, directing traffic, securing facilities, checking for safety hazards and repair needs, and assisting park visitors. Registers park visitors and assigns them to appropriate use areas; collects and accounts for fees, answers questions, and explains park policies and regulations. Maintains records of park activities, including accident/incident reports, lost and found reports, visitor reports, vehicle use reports, and a variety of other reports, as required. Leads or participates in search and rescue efforts, which may involve rescuing stranded climbers or boaters and administering emergency first aid to victims of accidents or illness. Supervises and works with other park personnel on development, construction, maintenance, and repair of park structures and facilities. May train parks personnel in security measures, search and rescue techniques, and other topics as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of law enforcement methods and techniques. Knowledge of geography, points of interest, and principal recreation areas of State. Knowledge of methods of protecting, operating, and maintaining a State park unit. Knowledge of policies, procedures, and rules of State Parks and Recreation Commission. Knowledge of constitutional laws, and laws of arrest and evidence, traffic and foot patrol, self-defense skills, principles of violator contact, fire prevention and suppression methods and equipment. Ability to assign and coordinate work activities of others. Ability to conduct investigations and enforce public safety laws and regulations. Ability to handle weapons, exercise self-defense, and administer first aid. Ability to prepare and present oral and written information, reports, and documents.
Minimum Qualifications

Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
