Position Summary
Indy Parks is creating a new, civilian park safety and community engagement program – Park Safety Ambassadors (PSA) – and is looking for a highly motivated and experienced leader to create and manage the program, working in coordination with Indy Parks and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) including IMPD Park Rangers. The PSA Program aims to enhance park safety and the patron experience through enhanced visibility, education, and engagement, aligned with the Park’s mission and commitment to racial equity. The PSA Administrator will be pivotal in shaping this new program and developing and leading of this new team of PSAs.

Position Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
+ Develop and implement a comprehensive park safety ambassador program, aligned with the Indy Park’s mission and values, to ensure the safety and well-being of park visitors and staff.
+ Act as a liaison between park safety ambassadors and park visitors, addressing inquiries, concerns, and providing assistance when needed.
+ Provide on-site support for park safety and risk management at special events and programs.
+ Coordinate with park management and other relevant stakeholders to identify and address safety concerns and implement appropriate solutions.
+ Collaborate with the local police department to establish a strong working relationship and ensure effective communication and coordination.
+ Recruit, hire, and train a team of park safety ambassadors to effectively carry out their duties.
+ Conduct regular meetings and training sessions with park safety ambassadors to provide guidance, updates, and address any concerns or issues.
+ Develop and maintain policies and procedures for the park safety ambassador program, ensuring compliance with local regulations and best practices.
+ Advise parks staff members on best practices related to special events and programs, regarding safety and risk components.
+ Participate in planning process for existing and new facilities, regarding safety and risk components.
+ Monitor and evaluate the performance of park safety ambassadors, providing feedback and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
+ Stay updated on current safety practices, industry trends, and emerging technologies to continuously improve the park safety ambassador program.
+ Perform administrative duties, including but not limited to, scheduling, budgeting, and capital planning.
+ Compile comprehensive and precise public safety, incident, training, and other department-related reports.

Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and seven (7) to ten (10) years of managerial experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in criminal justice, public administration, or a similar discipline. Equivalent experience in military, security, or police-related roles may be considered in lieu of a degree. Knowledge of public and park safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and risk management principles. Familiarity with local laws and regulations related to park safety and security. Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies. Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team and prioritize tasks. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse groups of individuals. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications. Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically. Valid Driver's license.
A successful candidate will have experience in parks, recreation, natural resource management, and / or community engagement. Experience in public safety and related protocols, emergency response procedures, and risk management principles are a plus. Additionally, experience in managing teams and coordinating with law enforcement agencies would be advantageous.

Working Conditions
Work related to this position will be performed in an office setting (50%), and on-site park locations (50%), both indoor and outdoor.

+ Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10) pounds
+ Tasks may involve extended periods of time at keyboard or workstation
+ Tasks require the ability to perceive and hear sounds and see visual cues or signals
+ Tasks require the ability to communicate orally
