Position Title: Parsons Academy Course Assistant Requisition Number: 0406073561 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: PSD/Continuing Education Responsibilities: Introduction:Parsons Academy offers a variety of art and design courses for students in grades 3 through 12 in subjects ranging from fine arts and illustration to design disciplines such as fashion design, interior design, photography, animation, and more. Students in grades 9-12 with prior art and design experiences may take our portfolio development course to re-envision their current body of creative work as they create portfolio presentations for the college admissions process. Classes meet on campus on Saturdays in the spring semester.
This position will assist in teaching and learning in a class environment for students ranging from Grades 3-12. The Course Assistant reports to the Assistant Director of Operations and Planning,Parsons Academy.
Job description/schedule: Course Assistants support teaching and learning outcomes for art and design courses for Parsons Academy students in grades 3-12 through non-instructional activities. Course Assistants are expected to work the following days in a support role for a teacher. Work schedule will be finalized upon hiring.
Parsons Academy: Fall and Spring (Grades 3–12) (In-Person): January 25 – April 12, 2025 Saturdays (except Spring break – No classes on Saturday, March 15) 9:30am-1:00pm ET (3.5 hours of paid time)
Responsibilities include: Attending class sessions and supporting faculty, including chaperoning for field trips. Assisting with classroom set-up and breakdown, including for Open Studios. Demonstrating techniques. Collecting assignments and projects. Uploading course content and documentation online throughout the course. Connecting students with Making Center / Making Center staff. Building community among students to serve academic success. Assisting new students with campus navigation
Work Mode: On-Campus Position – Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely.
Special Note: This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between SENS-UAW, Local 7902 and the University.
