Part-Time Armed Security Officer

Position Overview

 

Provide Armed Security Guard services at the FAA William J Hughes Technical Center, Atlantic City International Airport, New Jersey

 

Responsibilities

 

Provide security protection and access control for all government property, classified material, and personnel within assigned areas of responsibility to preclude unauthorized access, theft, or intentional destruction. Report/respond to unusual or emergency situations. Be alert for potential security, property or safety concerns and initiate the appropriate actions. Control ingress/egress into and/or out of posted/controlled/security areas. Prevent/report all violations of security and safety rules and regulations. Respond to protective alarm signals or other unusual/suspicious activities. Maintain a working knowledge of all security and guard orders, written and oral, pertaining to the assigned duties. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

US Citizenship is required High School education or GED At least 21 years old Must be able to pass a background investigation and pre-employment drug screen Two (2) years’ prior work experience in armed security or equivalent in the military or law enforcement Effective oral and written communication ability NJ driver's license NJ State Armed Security Officers Registration Act (SORA) license NJ State Firearms Permit to Carry Physically fit and in good general health without any physical defects or abnormalities, able to perform guard duties and pass a physical abilities test Ability to handle office related material such as, computer equipment, printout paper, notebooks, ledgers, badge printer. Must be able to obtain a Department of Homeland Security Suitability certification.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

 

Duties require lifting more than 10 pounds, bending twisting, standing and some activities that involve standing for long periods of time, often without breaks Requires conducting foot patrols and response to alarms in varied weather conditions. 90% of the work will require some sort of physical activity frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must have visual and audio acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment, machines such as fire equipment and apparatuses, firearms and clearing barrels. May be subject to outdoor conditions including extreme temperatures and weather Subject to high noise levels Subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals May be required to be fitted for and/or wear a respirator May be required to climb stairs or ladders and walk up inclines and on uneven terrain
