Summary\:
The Part Time Assistant Director assists the Director in all aspects of Clinic operations. This is a 20 hour per week position. The Assistant Director is primarily responsible for Clinic intake which includes daily outreach, follow up and weekly intake reporting to the Director. The Assistant Director is also responsible for staffing the Clinic when students are scheduled to be there, providing oversight and guidance with respect to the tax law and tax procedure in the course of students’ work on behalf of clients. The Assistant Director may handle cases directly when students are not available or need help at the direction and under the supervision of the Director.
The Part Time incumbent will be primarily responsible for new client intake, and administration of the Clinic. This includes scheduling students’ work hours, keeping track of new cases, making sure case records are up to date, and fielding inquiries from clients and the IRS. The Assistant Director participates in the drafting of reports required by the LITC Program Office and compiles necessary information.
The Part Time Assistant Director will work on special projects including outreach, educational events, and systemic advocacy and teaching units of the Clinic seminar. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience\:
Bachelor’s Degree and at least five (5) years of experience. At least three (3) years of which is directly related experience in a legal setting, such as, legal assistant, paralegal, or experience in a Low-Income Tax Clinic. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required skills and abilities\:
· Demonstrated verbal and written communication along with the ability to effectively interact with students and clients.
· Advanced research and writing skills.
· Knowledge of tax law and procedure.
· Superior legal judgement.
· Independent and a self-starter.
Preferred
· Spanish speaking
