The College is currently seeking a part-time Campus Safety Officer OR a part-time Sr. Campus Safety Officer, depending on the applicant qualifications. This role is responsible for performing routine tasks pertaining to the safety of individuals and the security of college property.
As a Campus Safety Officer you would be responsible for inspecting college property to detect security hazards and for deterring maintenance problems and equipment failure. This position does not involve any responsibility for the performance of police or peace officer duties, such as the apprehension of violators. Rather, an incumbent would report any such situations to supervision or local police officials. The work is performed under the functional supervision of a Senior Campus Safety Officer and the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Auxiliary Services and/or the Assistant Director of Public Safety.
As a Senior Campus Safety Officer the work involves responsibility for performing peace officer duties and security tasks pertaining to the safety and protection of individuals and the security of College property, including, but not limited to: property access control, fire and crime prevention and investigation, documentation and reporting of all incidents.
Please note, this is a competitive civil service position and the incumbent will be required to take the appropriate civil service exam associated to this position. That exam has not been scheduled yet and the incumbent will be appointed provisionally until that time.
Position is part-time with potential to become full-time.

Essential Functions
+ Patrols college property on a regular basis during to detect fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, or equipment failure and looks for possible hazards which may develop;
+ Reports such conditions to supervision for resolution;
+ Watches for irregularities such as leaky pipes, unlocked doors, unusual occurrences, and vandalized property and reports such to the appropriate personnel;
+ Closes or locks doors, gates, and windows according to prescribed routines to deter criminal activity or accidental loss;
+ Ensures that all doors and entrances are unlocked for daily activities and classes;
+ Responds to calls for medical emergencies and provides first aid/CPR as needed;
+ Provides assistance to motorists with lockouts, dead batteries, and other vehicular problems;
+ Enforces college parking rules and regulations;
+ Monitors and controls the flow of traffic when necessary;
+ Warns violators of rule infractions such as loitering;
+ Testifies in court regarding offenses personally witnessed;
+ Prevents acts that could be harmful to college property, employees, or the general public by observing suspicious activity and reporting such activity to supervision for resolution;
+ Prepares a variety of written reports;
+ Monitors the effective operation of security, fire alarm, and energy management systems to assure full operational condition;
+ Transfers cash and other property to college sites and off campus locations; and
+ Other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned

Additional Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for Sr. Campus Safety Officer
+ Working knowledge of law enforcement procedures, basic investigative and documentation techniques, relevant laws, codes, regulations, and legal procedures pertaining to campus security and public safety
+ Working knowledge of and the ability to perform CPR and utilize an AED
+ Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions
+ Ability to hear normal speech and other audible events and to verbally communicate over a two-way radio
+ Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality
Minimum Qualifications
Campus Safety Officer
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and,
(a) Successful completion of the New York State Security Guard 8-hour Pre-assignment Training and possession of or a pending application for a NYS Security Guard registration card, which includes fingerprinting and a thorough background check by the State Department of Criminal Justice Services and the FBI.
(b) Successful completion of The Municipal Police Training Council's Basic Course for Peace Officer.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S)
+ Must possess a valid New York State Class "D" Driver's License or higher at time of appointment and maintain such license for the duration of employment;
+ Must possess CPR/AED certifications at time of appointment or the ability to obtain such certifications within 6 months of appointment and maintain such certification for the duration of employment; and
+ Must successfully complete the NYS Security Guard 16 Hour On-the-Job training course within 90 days of appointment.
+ Must successfully complete the NYS Security Guard 8 hour annual in-service training each calendar year.
Minimum Qualifications for Sr. Campus Safety Officer
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, and
(a) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an associate’s degree in criminal justice, police science, or a closely related field and one year of full time or equivalent part time paid experience as a police officer, peace officer, campus safety officer, or security officer in a public or private security force
(b) Three years of experience as defined in (a) above
(c) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by (a) and (b) above
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S)
+ Must possess current NYS Security Guard Certification at time of appointment and maintain such certification until such time as an approved Municipal Police Training Council Training Program for Peace Officers as described in Section 2.30 of the NYS Criminal Procedure Law has been successfully completed
+ Must successfully complete an approved Municipal Police Training Council Training Program for Peace Officers as described in Section 2.30 of the NYS Criminal Procedure Law within one year of the date of appointment and maintain such certification as a condition of employment
+ Must possess a valid, appropriate New York State driver license at time of appointment and maintain such license as a condition of employment; and
+ Must possess current CPR/AED certifications or the ability to obtain such certifications within 6 months of appointment and maintain such certification as a condition of employment.
Contract Rate of Pay:
Campus Safety Officer Rate $17.74
Sr. Campus Safety Officer Rate - $21.31
