POSITION OVERVIEW The Dental Hygienist is a member of the dental team whose primary responsibility is to provide preventive periodontal treatment, patient education, and assist the dentist(s). SCHEDULE AND PAY This is an in person, part-time (~4 hours/week) position. Scheduled shift is Saturday 8AM- 12PM. Pay range: $35-$40/hr. DUTIES + Takes and record blood pressure, temperature, and pulse. Complete and/or update medical and dental history. + Evaluates patients’ teeth and gums, record the presence of disease, abnormalities or existing restorations. When appropriate, may call in dentist for immediate consultation. + Makes decisions in collaboration with dentist regarding the plan of care. + Takes and mount x-rays. + Instructs patients in oral hygiene technique, answer patient questions and provide other educational information relevant to oral hygiene. + Administers prophylactic treatment by the scaling and polishing of teeth. + Uses rotary and ultrasonic instruments to clean teeth. + Applies topical anesthetic and local anesthetic if permitted by state practice laws. + Administers fluoride treatment as needed. + Removes sutures and periodontal dressings. + Takes impression for night-guards and mouth-guards. + Prepares operatories for patient treatment. + Sterilizes instruments.
