This position plays a key role in maintaining cleanliness and environmental standards within the community. The Inspector works under the direction of the Public Works Assistant Director for Solid Waste. Job Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Inspection & Enforcement: Monitor and enforce the City Code regarding the proper placement, set-out times, and removal of trash piles to ensure compliance. + Trash Pit Hole Mapping: Plot and classify trash pit holes by size to maintain accurate records of waste collection practices. + Route Inspections: Follow assigned routes daily to inspect for potential violations and identify non-compliant waste disposal practices. + Oversized & Chargeable Waste: Identify and document oversized or chargeable trash piles, ensuring proper charges and follow-up. + Drain Obstruction Prevention: Inspect for trash piles that may obstruct drains, ensuring waste is placed in compliance with ordinances and does not create hazards. + Illegal Dumping Investigations: Identify, investigate, and address illegal dumping locations, working to prevent further violations. + Cardboard Recycling Compliance: Enforce City Code regarding the proper handling and placement of cardboard for recycling programs. + Garbage Collection Monitoring: Ensure adherence to the City's garbage collection program by observing collection schedules and practices. + Community Outreach: Distribute informational and educational materials regarding solid waste ordinances, recycling, and proper disposal practices. + Problem Resolution: Investigate recurring service complaints related to contractors and vendors and recommend solutions to improve service delivery and compliance. Emergency Operations and Special Projects: The Public Works Inspector for Right-of-Way & Solid Waste will assist with emergency operations as designated by the City Manager, providing support during critical events or situations. Additionally, the Inspector will collaborate on special projects as assigned by the Lead Solid Waste Coordinator or the Assistant Director of the Solid Waste Division, contributing to the successful completion of department initiatives and tasks. Additional Responsibilities: + Perform other related duties as assigned to support the Public Works Department’s operations and objectives. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Six (6) months or more of additional training, and one (1) to three (3) years of experience dealing with the public in code enforcement, zoning, building, or construction inspections, investigations, or a related field.? Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for one year of the required experience or education. F.A.C.E. (Florida Association of Code Enforcement) Level 1 or must obtain certification within 12 months from date of appointment. Public sector experience preferred. Valid Florida Driver's License. A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. PART-TIME (15-24 Hours): ANNUAL LEAVE: 4 days per year (1 day is equivalent to 4.80 hours). Leave is accrued but not able to use during first 90 days of employment. SICK LEAVE: 4 days per year. Employees may convert to annual leave 15 hours if more than 2 days have been accrued and unused during the fiscal year. HOLIDAYS: 12 holidays (If scheduled to work, plus 1 floating day). BEREAVEMENT: 3 Days for the death of an immediate family member (Parent, spouse, or child) and 2 days for any other immediate family member. ADMINISTRATIVE SICK LEAVE: Employees who have not used sick leave, leave without pay, or have not lost time due to an on-the-job injury in a 6 month period are entitled to 1 day of administrative leave. CASH PAY OUT OF VACATION: Employees may request payment of accrued/earned annual leave not to exceed 15 hours at the rate of pay in effect at the time of the request, provided such request is made no later than September 30, 2015 (or as amended every fiscal year). MILITARY LEAVE: 30 work days every year with pay and the remainder of the period shall be without pay, unless otherwise provided by City Commission. JURY DUTY: Time off with pay if scheduled to work. PART-TIME (25 -29 Hours) ANNUAL LEAVE: 8 days per year (1 day is equivalent to 5.80 hours). Leave is accrued but not able to use during first 90 days of employment. SICK LEAVE: 8 days per year. Employees may convert to annual leave 30 hours if more than 4 days have been accrued and unused during the fiscal year. HOLIDAYS: 12 holidays (If scheduled to work, plus 1 floating day).
