Position Title Part-Time Instruction/Outreach Librarian, Redmond Student Commons (Non-Benefited) Classification Title Part-Time Hourly T1 Hourly rate, Stipend, or Load Unit $28.00/hr Close Date Position Type/Employee Class Temporary PT Hourly Instructor Status Not applicable Overtime Eligible Non-Exempt FLSA Status Campus Location Redmond Primary Purpose The Part-Time Instruction/Outreach Librarian – Redmond Student Commons is responsible for the day-to-day reference and research needs of students, faculty, staff and community patrons on the COCC Redmond campus. This position requires collaboration with colleagues to publicize and promote the library services and instructional offerings.The Part-Time Instruction/Outreach Librarian – Redmond Student Commons will work closely with the Instruction and Outreach Faculty Librarian to deliver information literacy instructional sessions, meet with students needing research support, and fulfill circulation and course reserve duties. Essenatial Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Outreach Functions In collaboration with library departmental faculty, and Redmond Campus Director, is responsible for the promotion of the Redmond Student Commons; Participate in the planning and teaching of one-shot instruction sessions on the Redmond campus. Provide leadership in the delivery and promotion of the library’s reference/research assistance services to our students, faculty and other patron groups on the Redmond campus. Provide research assistance to students and faculty via the library’s book a librarian service; Participate in library meetings and training sessions. Participate as member of the Redmond Campus team, keeping Campus Director, frontline staff and other Student Commons attendants informed and engaged in all tasks. Will include a flexible schedule, including some weekend and evening hours. Perform other essential special assignments as requested by the Instruction and Outreach Faculty Librarian and/or Redmond Campus Director.

Circulation Functions Provide support for collection maintenance in the Redmond Student Commons. Process delivery of new items, student holds, and course reserves. Learn library reserves processing (covers, barcodes, stamps, etc.) practices and implement with eye towards detail, precision, consistency and aesthetic appeal. Provide cordial, professional service to library staff and patrons. Provide pertinent directional information, referring patrons to appropriate departments and library personnel as applicable. Utilize library software applications/databases as needed. Special tasks and other projects as assigned. Regularly provide trainings for Student Commons Attendants working in the Redmond Student Commons; share communication and best practice to ensure consistent operations of the Attendant desk.
Collection Development and Technical Services Functions Work with collection development/acquisitions librarian to select materials appropriate for Redmond Student Commons library collections, based on COCC Redmond programs and student interests. Work with library technical services team to create theme-specific displays featuring Redmond Student Commons collections. If needed, perform basic copy cataloging and processing functions for Redmond Student Commons library materials. Department Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies. Knowledge of instructional theories and ability to teach library classes in a physical and online environment; Experience with concepts and goals of information literacy; Demonstrated understanding of information needs of community college students; Experience with library reference and research services; Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills; Professional initiative and flexibility; Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making; Ability to plan and organize outreach activities fitting for a community college environment; Willingness and ability to teach at various hours, as required, on the Redmond campus; Ability to be responsive to all students, faculty, and community employers as customers; Ability to maintain confidentiality of records including student information and records; Ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experiences; Ability to effectively utilize common Microsoft applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) to communicate, gather data, and generate reports; Team player, flexible schedule, reliable, punctual, attentive to detail, willingness to learn new skills, shows initiative, self-motivated, able to work without direct supervision. Ergonomic Requirements Regular office hours are established between 8 am – 5 pm during the workweek. Hours are flexible based on instructional needs, student research appointments, and special events. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Minimum Requirements Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS or MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution required or equivalent education in another field. At least one year of recent experience working in libraries or an academic setting in higher education.
