IST305: Exploration of IT infrastructure and culture in global organizations including issues of globalization, distributed collaboration, virtual organizations, culture, global enterprise systems, data, business analytics and knowledge management.
The course is designed to help students better navigate the global enterprise and understand the IT infrastructure, data and cultural issues associated with this form of technology, organizing, and work. The course revolves around four main themes (1) global culture, (2) global collaboration, (3), global systems and (4) global data. The course draws on the disciplines of organization science, information systems, business management, and data science. It offers analytical skills and practical tools that enable students to analyze the social and technical challenges and possibilities that enterprises face operating in a global world.
After taking this course, students will be able to:
· Account for different perspectives on globalization and culture in regard to collaboration, information systems, and data work.
· Identify and discuss the role of culture and technology in global enterprises and work places.
· Identify and analyze examples of IT infrastructures operated by global enterprises.
· Identify and critically assess problem areas and possibilities for knowing and knowledge generation associated with global enterprises and their data infrastructures.
· Master skills associated with virtual and distributed work in a global enterprise.
