Job Purpose:

The purpose of the lecturer position involves the training and education of students; student consultations; the establishment of a knowledge base of the discipline through academic research & development and providing support to the Academic Development Consultants.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Lecturing: Lecture and facilitate Student Support workshops and subject-specific tutorials as required.Teaching and Learning Support.Develop teaching & learning capacity and standards on campus by assisting the Academic Development Co-ordinator and contract lecturers.Ensure academic conventions are communicated and taught on campus and preparation, lecturing and marking in relevant discipline according to timetable.Work with the librarians on information literacy for students and lecturers.Under the direction of the Academic Development Consultants, coordinate and run lecturer forums and faculty meetings.Research and DevelopmentTeam support.

Minimum Requirements:

 B.Ed. Honours degree/ an Honours degree in English/ another Humanities/Arts/Social Science Honours/ Postgraduate Diploma in Education (at NQF level 8)
And:

The undergraduate qualification must include English as a major (up to third year level)/ the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (NQF level 8) must include English as a didactic subject.

Experience
Ideally, teaching in the Foundation and Intermediate Phases / as well as lecturing experience in English literature.

Key Competencies (Academic):

Knowledge and understanding of the South African higher education systems and regulatory framework.
Knowledge and understanding of the Teaching and Learning theory and interventions.The ability to provide student support services.The ability to work with and learn more about digitalized academic platforms.The ability to cope with a frequently changing environment and to adapt to evolving situations.Ability to adhere to rules and strictly follow work regulations.Deadline orientated and can work well under pressure.Ability to manage time effectively.

Working Hours

Classes are scheduled from 08h00am until 17h00pm, Monday to Friday. Your working hours will depend on the modules assigned to you according to the timetable.
