Part Time Maintenance (Recreation & Parks)
Opportunity at a Glance The Village of Orland Park's Athletic Division of our Recreation and Parks department has an immediate opening for a responsible, enthusiastic,Part-Time Maintenanceemployee to perform outdoor maintenance of all parks and grounds owned by the village. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities include performing routine maintenance work on village owned properties including but not limited to the restoration and maintenance of turf areas; install, mow and treat sod; lay out athletic fields and play areas; install, maintain and repair fences, stands, lights, dugouts and related appurtenances along with other duties as assigned. During inclement weather, shoveling, snow blowing, and salting during snow events is also a duty of this position. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent along with 1-2 years of related maintenance experience and the ability to work independently. Skill in the use of hand tools and in the operation of gasoline and electric powered equipment; the ability to diagnose equipment and mechanical malfunctions; and working knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment is preferred. This position also requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; to work within time constraints; to follow verbal and written instructions; to maintain composure in emergency situations; and to make accurate arithmetic computations. An Illinois Driver’s License is also required, Non-CDL Class 'C' preferred. Must have the ability to acquire an Illinois Pesticide Operators license as scheduled. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to frequently walk, perform overhead work, bend stoop, and kneel. The employee must be able to lift, carry up to 50 lbs and push up to 90 pounds. The employee will occasionally drive and use heavy machinery. This position is required to work both inside and outside depending on the assignment. Employees in this position may be exposed to inclement weather, heat, cold, rain, snow, etc. Hours consist of either of the two (2) schedules below: Monday, Wednesday 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and Friday 6:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.OR Tuesday, Thursday 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and Friday 6:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. (approximately 20 to 29 hours per week). These are general hours and start and end times and days assigned may fluctuate based on department needs. In addition, you may be required to work beyond closing hours depending on the activity of the day. We are flexible in scheduling and willing to make slight accommodations to correspond with the needs of the perfect candidate.
