Part-Time/On-Call Armed Detention Officer

Responsibilities

Performs duties related to the detention, processing, safeguarding, security, escort and transport of detainees as required by the contract.

Exercises surveillance and control over detainees maintains order and discipline.

Enforces rules and regulations of the detention facility.

Provides care, custody and control of detainees.

Removes detainees from holding areas using proper restraints and security measures.

Guards' detainees at deportation or exclusion hearings, during transport, while receiving medical care.

Required to duty carry one of the authorized intermediate weapons (Intermediate weapons should be used in accordance with Service approved Use of Force policy).

Inspects, maintains, and cares for authorized equipment including but not limited to:

One approved semi-automatic pistol with appropriate duty belt and magazines.

All magazines loaded to full capacity.

Handcuffs/leg irons and keys, waist chains, black boxes, and restraint keys.

Ballistic vests which must be worn at all times while performing armed officer duties.

Requalify with weapon quarterly.

Makes official entries in the transportation and processing logbooks that are legible and complete.

Conducts a security and sanitation check of the area prior to relieving the outgoing officer.

Performs complete vehicle inspections prior to and following every transportation route.

Inventories all equipment and notate the results in the logbook.

Receives all authorized equipment and ensure that it is in proper working condition.

Ensures that your communication radio is in good working order with a fully charged battery.

Augments staff as needed at the San Juan Staging Facility and LMMIA operations as required.

Attends to housing, feeding, and the physical well-being of detainees, 24 hours a day.

Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with organization policies and procedures.

Completes all training and job requirements.

Follows company-wide safety policies and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the Officer Handbook and other Company Safety Policies.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Detention Officers shall have as a minimum one (1) year of experience as a law enforcement officer, military officer, security officer engaged in functions related to detaining civil or administrative detainees, or 2 years of college in an appropriate field of study from an accredited institution

US citizen or a person lawfully admitted into the United States for permanent residence and have resided in the U.S. for the last five years.

Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Pass a criminal background and consumer credit check (no criminal record).

Obtain and maintain a DHS/ICE government clearance.

Pass all pre-employment and random drug tests.

Pass a medical examination and meet health requirements.

At least 21 years of age.

Possess a valid state driver's license (Cat 4 or above preferred) and Firearms license under the regulations of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Maintain current/physical residency in PR.

Strictly maintain physical fitness standards for law enforcement/corrections.

Demonstrate an ability to work with a diverse population of people, including people of different cultures, with different values and lifestyles, with a cross-cultural perspective.

Ability to greet and deal tactfully with the general public.

Proven ability to exercise good judgment, courage, alertness, an even temperament, and render satisfactory performance through his/her responsibilities.

Capability of following and interpreting/understanding written and verbal orders, policies and regulations, printed rules and regulations in English, detailed written orders, training instructions and materials, and can compose written and oral reports in English.

Ability to maintain poise and self-control during potential emergencies and unexpected situations that may involve mental and physical stress such as disturbances, altercations, fires, and building evacuations.

Maintain a professional personal appearance, calm demeanor, and discretion with confidential information.

Possess a high degree of integrity, accountability and adhere to the American Correctional Association and DHS ICE National Detention Standards.

The incumbent’s duties are performed in a detention facility environment, working with a wide variety of people from different cultures, backgrounds and speaking various languages, while performing multiple functions.

Physical Demands:

The incumbent is required to work the majority of hours in an indoor/outdoor detention center environment, standing and walking the majority of time, and respond quickly to changes in work demands, emerging situations and emergencies.

This position requires the candidate to maintain physical fitness standards and must be able to pass and maintain required physical testing requirements and standards which includes:

Must be able to lift heavy object up to 50lbs frequently and up to 70lbs occasionally.

Must be able to push a wheelchair bound individual weighing up to 300 lbs and helping individual in and out of chair.

Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, twisting, reaching overhead and climb stairs, ladders and slopes periodically.

Strictly maintain physical fitness standards for law enforcement related position throughout your employment under this contract.

Ability to walk through all areas of the facility for tours and compliance inspections in varied weather conditions.

Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend and reach for extended periods of time.

Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.

Ability to work without restrictions and limitations.

Ability to greet and deal tactfully and professionally with the general public.
