Objective Under the supervision of an educational administrator, the Game and Simulation Instructor will develop a curriculum and provide lecture and laboratory instruction for students in Game and Simulation courses.A Game and Simulation Instructor’s job includes the following activities: Teaching: Provide interactive lectures to groups of students using face-to-face or online modalities; Instruct students on computer science topics, such as programming, data structures, and software design, explain concepts and processes in a logical, sequential fashion; type/keyboard and/or utilize mouse to operate and configure microcomputers and peripherals; provide students with a “hands on” learning experience in a laboratory setting; form and maintain effective working relationships with peers, staff and students; work independently and collaboratively to solve problems; participate in Blinn College activities; apply an equity-minded framework and ensure programs, services and processes are designed and delivered to meet the varying needs of all constituents; to interact and work effectively with a diverse population utilizing exceptional interpersonal and intercultural skills; exercise sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff; and develop activities and assignments to address diverse learning styles. Lesson planning: Develop syllabi of lecture materials; prepare lesson plans to be used in lectures; coordinate lectures with laboratory assignments; prepare multi-media demonstrations to enhance instructional delivery; integrate the use of the computer throughout the instructional program; prepare handouts and supplemental materials; develop quizzes, tests, and “hands-on” evaluations; evaluate student performance on quizzes, tests, and reports; advise students on matters regarding their academic performance; tabulate scores and assign official grades; review and select learning resources such as textbooks, internet sites, and periodicals determined to be the most useful, appropriate and equity-minded; review and evaluate new instructional material for content, readability, cost-effectiveness, and equity-mindedness; read literature (books, newspapers, periodicals, and other print and online materials) to stay current in the field; and attend training. Grading: Develop quizzes, examinations, homework assignments, projects, and laboratory assignments that fairly evaluate student progress in acquiring knowledge and skill sets of subject material; monitor student activity during tests and quizzes; read, assess, and grade student responses on examinations; quizzes, and projects; assign, read, and evaluate student homework assignments and projects; tabulate scores and assign official grades; advise students on matters regarding their academic performance; and provide information and refer students to appropriate student support services to ensure a thriving learning environment. Student support: Monitoring student progress, providing feedback, and holding office hours. Communication: Communicate with the department head about students’ progress and success. Classroom management: Maintaining an orderly classroom and ensuring proper care and maintenance of computer equipment. Essential Duties • Demonstrates a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence.
• Prepares and utilizes a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.
• Maintains current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
• Advises students in academic matters.
• Evaluates students’ performance through a variety of means to measure progress and keep them informed in a timely manner.
• Assists in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.
• Provides recommendations to the Academic Dean, Assistant Dean, Department Heads, and Curriculum Resource Team regarding curriculum.
• Demonstrates a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community.
• Submits timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions/departments.
• Exhibits a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities.
• Possesses a passion for teaching community college students.
• Demonstrates effective communication skills, both written and orally.
• Attends required institutional meetings.
• Responsible for other related duties as assigned. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Information Technology, Computer or Software Engineering, Computer-Based Information Systems (e.g., management, decision), Game Programming, Game and Simulation Programming,

Bachelor’s degree in any of the fields/disciplines
listed above
OR
Associate degree in one of these areas and three years of teaching or non-teaching work experience in the field or industry certification(s) Preferred Experience and Training Principles of Object-Oriented Programming. Programming Languages (One of: Python, Java, or C++). The Internet, including history, protocols, networking, and security. Computer applications software, such as word processing, spreadsheets, database management, presentation programs, and desktop publishing. Computer operating systems, including Windows, MacOS, and Linux. Methods to successfully support individuals with varying backgrounds, which include persons with disabilities, various gender identities, sexual orientations, individuals from historically underrepresented communities, and other groups.
