Job Description
We are seeking an experienced SALT Partner to lead the State and Local Tax (SALT) department at a top 100 accounting and consulting firm. This leadership role is critical for managing client engagements, mentoring team members, and contributing to the firm’s growth and profitability. As a SALT Partner, you will oversee high-value tax projects, advise clients on complex tax matters, and drive strategic initiatives for the department.

This hybrid role offers flexibility while requiring in-office presence for client engagements, team leadership, and firm-wide initiatives. Hiring in Los Angeles, Orange County, or Dallas

Responsibilities

Perform technical tax reviews and approve income or sales tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity. Lead client engagements, ensuring timely and efficient completion within budgeted time. Provide advanced technical expertise for advising clients on complex state and local tax matters. Delegate and manage tax research projects to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Oversee recruiting, training, and mentoring of tax staff, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment. Represent clients during governmental tax examinations and communicate with taxing authorities. Develop and implement strategies to grow the SALT practice and acquire new business opportunities. Maintain knowledge of economic and political trends impacting tax legislation. Adhere to accurate and timely billing and collection processes.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Coach, mentor, and develop Supervising Seniors, Seniors, and Staff Accountants. Identify growth and training opportunities for tax managers and staff. Participate in performance reviews and evaluations of the Tax Department.

Qualifications

10-15 years of public accounting experience, with progressive responsibility in managing complex engagements. We are looking for someone who comes from either the Big 4 or a national firm (RSM, BDO, etc.) Proven ability to lead and grow a department or practice area within a CPA firm. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s degree in Taxation preferred. A current and valid CPA license is mandatory. Minimum of 40 hours of continuing education annually. Strong technical knowledge of state and local tax laws and compliance requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $300-$400k per year. Comprehensive benefits package.
