About the Role: We are looking for a Patent Agent to join our Intellectual Property (IP) Legal team. You will play a vital role in generating IP assets and IP strategies in support of innovation, technology development, and on-going business operations, including use of IP searching/analysis for competitive intelligence. This position will be aligned specifically to the Gore Medical Products Division known for our innovation and distinctive team culture; we work closely with healthcare professionals to solve some of the most complex medical challenges of today. Your role will be to identify and protect IP assets that support our innovative medical devices and medical materials, inclusive of vascular grafts, endovascular and interventional devices, surgical meshes, and biomaterials. You will play an active role in driving the IP efforts from generation of IP assets, in the form of trade secrets and patentable inventions, to IP life cycle management on a global basis.
This is a remote position, and you can work from home in most locations within the United States.
Responsibilities: Manage business aligned patent portfolios by applying your patent agent knowledge for global patent preparation and prosecution management while leveraging your experience in research and innovation within a corporation, as well as your thorough understanding of the role of intangible assets within a business and the impact these can have on success in the market. Direct preparation and prosecution work collaborating with external law firm attorneys and internal R&D teams. Develop policies for preparation and prosecution work with internal team and Gore Medical IP Committee Collaborate with internal and external legal counsel on a wide variety of IP Legal matters inclusive of oppositions/enforcements, IP misappropriation or infringement, patent clearances, trade secret protection, IP as competitive intelligence, as well as matters relating to trademarks or copyrights, inclusive of using your searching and analysis skills and IP generalist skills Utilize advanced IP searcher/analyst skills for patentability and clearance searching as well as to provide IP Competitive Intelligence to inform business operations, inclusive of distilling copious amounts of data into actionable recommendations in a timely manner Build and implement an “IP as Competitive Intelligence” program with strong participation and collaboration with Business Associates and the IP team Train Associates on appropriate review of patents as literature, protection of IP, and generation of IP inclusive of developing training programs Develop holistic IP strategies, inclusive of trade secrets and patents, for a wide range of medical device designs, uses, testing, and manufacturing as well as market entry strategies Adopt consistent IP team processes and output while developing strong collaboration with fellow IP team members inclusive of clearance and IP deliverable polices and budgeting Quickly develop a deep knowledge of the businesses that you support and effectively apply to develop IP strategies to support business goalsRequired Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years' experience as a registered, practicing US Patent Agent; may consider previous EU experience Experience in advanced search methodologies and analytical techniques to support intellectual property strategies and innovation initiatives Demonstrated experience synthesizing complex data into actionable insights and recommendations within tight timelines Demonstrated experience proactively applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills to drive effective decision-making Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration and build strong partnerships by engaging stakeholders, facilitating direct discussions and aligning on shared goals to drive business success Ability to adapt seamlessly to innovation and dynamic business environments Ability to thrive in ambiguous situations and navigate the unknown Ability and willingness to travel 5%
